The term refers to the disease rosacea. It is not a lifestyle choice and if the tables were turned, the 'woke brigade' would call the term offensive.

I'm sure I should be offended on Edward Leigh's MP behalf.

It really doesn't :lolol:

Lol, Millwall were clapping their players for not taking the knee. It's amazing how MSM spins this.

The Millwall supporters club explained the situation really well, they support Kick it Out and anti-racism campaigns, but not BLM as a political movement.

I think the banner last night was the right one, and the Millwall fans supported this course of action, you can support Kick it Out without the tained / negative connotations of BLM which to many is synonyms with defunding the police.

It's worth remembering that even though a vast majority on this board wouldn't boo the knee, a majority of people IN the country don't support the action. This contracts to the overwhelming tolerant nature of the UK.

I worked in Bermondsey for 10 years and worked with many local Millwall fans.
Some were overtly racist, some less, some were vehemently anti-racist.
However, to a man they considered the police to be untrustworthy, and an enemy.

Things may have changed since then, but I would hazard a guess that protecting the funding of the police, is not the most important part of their protest at taking the knee.

Nobody supports mocking someone with a medical condition but it's disingenuous to suggest everyone called a gammon is suffering from rosacea.

This. Never mind "worked in Bermondsey", there are literally hundreds of examples of Millwall attacking the "Old Bill" over the years.

I’m really not. But the hypocrisy is startling. The MP has spoken many times on this issue.

As I say, other way around, it’s offensive, but as it’s on the right, he’s fair game.

If I choose to find it offensive, How can you argue against my lived experiences?
Ban it. That’s the true woke response.

The statement below would suggest otherwise.

Firstly, it's incorrect as there's no connection between the term gammon and someone with rosacea. None.

Secondly, why do morons use 'woke' as a pejorative term? Is being aware of injustice and particular issues now a bad thing?

I'm sure you're not, but if anyone uses the word 'woke' then they immediately look like a complete ****ing tit.

I'm sure old, rich, white, reactionary men will survive somehow, the poor loves, but do feel free to start your own movement. Gammon Lives Matter. We could hold a collection and just before the players take the knee they could yell "Brexit means Brexit".

The statement below would suggest otherwise.

So their issue is with the defacing of things which hardly happened and the holding of extreme political views which only a tiny percentage of supporters do?

TBH if there's one group of people who shouldn't be accusing others of extreme political views based on a tiny fraction of their support it's a group of Millwall fans...

It's very admirable I'm sure, but having never booed the 'Kick it out' campaign doesn't make one the reincarnation of Steve Biko you know.

Well quite

the expression "Having never booed kick it out.... on our pitch"

Does rather speak volumes about how much they are aligned to the anti racism campaign.

So do those Millwall fans really honestly think that all these players and the EPL and the refs etc are actually supporting the defacement of Churchill's statue? Come off it! What complete and utter tosh.

My Daughter's best mate and parents are season ticket holders and had tickets.
They were hugely embarrassed by it and are under no illusion about the cause of the booing.

Needless to say, they feel it was neither a reaction to Marxist politics, nor the state of the Policing budgets.

A compromise needed to be reached because not everyone agrees with your point of view. Doesn’t make them the caricature you have painted. News reporters were at the Den last night to write their pre written story and the QPR celebration seemed designed to make that happen. Childish.

The people who don't agree with the view are white people who seem to be uncomfortable with black people protesting about their treatment and calling for equality, this is their protest. Who are we as white people to tell them that they shouldn't take the knee or we don't like them taking the knee?? If white people feel uncomfortable with it then so be it and that's no bad thing, it's nothing like the institutional racism black people have to live with every day. We should stand shoulder to shoulder with them and support their means of protest, which is exactly what Brighton fans did at the game on Monday.
