Millwall after Glenn Murray

Losing Murray wouldn't be a disaster, he's not the only striker in the country. I know he's not under contract at the end of the season, but even for those that are (e.g Bennett) we have to accept that we're not Man City or Chelseas and that all players have a price. To say that selling your best players gets you nowhere is not always correct, it can make you stronger if you spend the money well. Look at how well Liverpool seem to have done with the Torres money!

Come on Gus give him the money he wants and sign him up !

This kind of a comment is a worry to me...if we do that then we just head ourselves back to the position of potential bankruptcy. We are not Real Madrid and we have to cut our cloth accordingly. If Murray is asking silly money then we would completely screw ourselves if we paid it. Although it makes me slightly sad to say it

Murray has been great for us this year but he is only part of a team, and it's the team that has done it for us this season, from back to front. I'd love to see Glenn playing for us next season but at the end of the day you have to cut your cloth to size and not do silly things with money like those that took us to where we've been for the last 15 years because of a few glory years at the top in the 70's/80's. Personally I think/hope we've learned our lesson.

Unquestionably this

If Murray does leave he will take some replacing because we don't at this time have another striker at this club who can win the ball in the air or hold it up and play it off like he does

I agree. Add to that his defensive qualities and work ethic. A more complete footballer you'll be hard to find at this and Championship level. It's frustrating when plaudits for strikers are given on the basis of goals alone - CMS got League 1 POS yet doesn't put in half the shift Murray does. The same went for Zamora, he was almost as valuable in our own penalty area as the opposition's at set pieces. Strikers like that are very difficult to replace.

Millwall are 'loaded', apparently. John Berylson is one of the richest men in America, owns the Red Sox or something out in the States.

Nah, that's the estimable John Henry, courtesy of whom New Englanders now get to wach Liverpool games on the Red Sox-owned TV channel. And frankly Liverpool is closer to the kind of club the Glennmeister should perhaps - fleetingly, obviously - consider leaving us for, rather than that grotty little shower of thuggish chavs somewhere in amongst the junk yards of SE London.

Whilst I agree with your general point about not judging strikers only by their goals, have you EVER seen CMS play? I've never seen ANY striker work harder for his team, EVER.

2 seasons ago I would have been bricking it had Murray been out of contract in a couple of months, but Gus has earnt the right to deal with this as he sees fit after what will soon be our best ever season - much as I want muzza here next season none of us have any idea what Gus's plans are for the summer and who is on their way out let alone who he wants in. What's important in my book is that we get behind Gus regarding whoever goes/stays irrespective of who they are. I think there will be a fair few surprises coming from the boss man.

I am not in the least bit conserned about the Murray situation. Yes he has been first class this season and yes I want him to stay. But if he is holding a gun to Poyets head over wages, I suggest Poyet calls his bluff. He may go elsewhere and get more money than we offer and good luck to him, thats his right as a free agent. Poyet knows a player when he sees one and he will know a players worth. I belive Murray needs us more than we need him and Poyet is not one for giving into demands. If he goes he goes, it will not make one jot of difference to our chances next season, he will be replaced by an even better player. Lets not forget, whatever he has achived this season, he is unproven at championship level, a fact that im sure Poyet is at pains to point out to him. You cant make demands on what you might be able to do. Murray is becomming better the longer he plays under Poyet, he would be a fool to leave. But if he does, thankyou and goodbye and goodluck.

I for one would be gutted if Murray goes, but at the end of the day its been a team effort this season. Barnes has scored a fair few goals and hasn't played half as much as Murray, although he's not as classy as muzza it goes to show that even he can score a fair few goals given the service. So just imagine what a good championship striker could do for us if we have to buy in the summer. And i think playing for the seagulls at the brand new stadium under a class manager is a fairly inviting prospect to many players!

He's replaceable, I'd trust Gus to get someone of Championship quality.

Totaly agree, Murray is replaceable, as is Bennett and anyone else that want to go. If a player wants to go Gus should hold the door open for them and wave them through it. This club is going places and anyone that is to blind or to stupid or greedy to see it can leave, as they are not what the club needs...Im glad the manager calls the shots at our club and not the players union.
