Millwall after Glenn Murray

One thing is abundantly clear, this club is not being run by amateurs. In the past I'd have been very worried about the Murray situation but now whether he stays or goes I have full faith in the board/manager making the best decision for the club. I personally really hope he stays and he looks like he is loving it here at the moment, which is possibly promising.

If Murray is such an important player for us (and he clearly is) it is a massive risk what we're doing. Of course, he may end up signing after all. But even getting to the end of the season is a risk. Goalscorers come at a premium, someone could easily make the club and Glenn himself a silly offer. Why risk that if he is such a key member of the team?

I can only assume they have a revised, increased contract offer drawn up which will be put in front of him the day we mathematically clinch promotion. Personally, I'd give it to him today.

yeah , me too..........you don't get anywhere by flogging your best players and that is a FACT

Millwall are 'loaded', apparently. John Berylson is one of the richest men in America, owns the Red Sox or something out in the States.

Not according to Wiki. He is a Fan of the Red Sox, and no sign of him having that much money. Does say he put £16m in to Millwall though.

i reckon we'll keep hold of him and bring in a "big name" to play along side him..........the viking also looks promising and ashley is on the improve,we would be mugs to let him walk for less than 3m imho.

Regardless of whether Glenn can leave on a free we should not be held to RANSOM. Do we really want to start doing a Pompey, Plymouth, Leeds etc?

Totally agree with this. Also Falmer and championship football now changes everything, we will be in a position to make a better offer than most, not all, clubs in the Championship. I do not think Millwall would be able to outbid us for Glenn's services next season.

Murray's very good but it wouldn't be the end of the world as we know it if he left.

One of two things will happen. A) He'll go and he'll be replaced (by someone of equal quality) or B) he'll stay and he'll be our top earner.

Can't see Millwall being much of a threat but Derby is a different matter, they are a genuinely big club but in all events let's win this Championship first.

last week Glenn has said he had been told contracts would be sorted at the end of the season, or after promotion was clinched.

We could be promoted within 2/3 weeks.

Why would anyone eschew the Amex in favour of playing at Smallwall's half empty stadium?

I'm sorry but that's the sort of arrogance which is no different to the crap Adkins has been spouting off all season about us.

Besides I can think of worse teams to play for!

IMHO, I think Murray will still end up at Leeds or somewhere in the north if he decides to leave us at the end of the season.

Well if you call "Pumping 16m into the club" "Loaded" then what do you describe us as?

John G. Berylson is a Boston based businessman and founder of Chestnut Hill Ventures LLC.[1] He is the chairman of London football team Millwall.[2]

He attended Harvard Business School earning an M.B.A, Brown University earning an A.B. degree and New York University, where he picked up an M.S. He is the director of Youngworld Stores Group, Inc and Non Executive Chairman, Member of Audit Committee and Member of Remuneration Committee of Millwall Holdings PLC. Berylson has pumped an estimated £16m into the club. He is also the director of Manifold Capital Corp.[1]

He is a former US Marine and passionate fan of the Boston Red Sox.[3][4] He holds numerous Trustee positions; at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, The Newton-Wellesley Hospital, Brown University Sports Foundation, and he holds the position of Director at the Brown University Library System

It's not really in Glenn's best interest to rush into signing a new contract with us, even if one was put on the table today. He is in a very strong position with decent championship clubs already interested so it would be madness to sign with us until he and his agent have looked at all the options. As a club, we are in a shit position with Glenn as his contract is up so he can go where he wants, but to replace him with a decent Championship striker will cost a lot, prob a couple of £million or so and we would stil have to pay the new striker the going rate in Championship wages so it's probably worth offering him a couple of grand a week over the going rate for the Championship to keep him here on say a 3 year deal, which is still a lot cheaper than the cost of a new player. It's a win win for Murray.
In our favour is that I hear he is now very happy down here, and that he has settled down with a local lass, so doesn't want to move too far away if he leaves, which cuts his options down quite a bit.

i think you've confused with John Henry, owner of RedSox and Liverpool*, who indeed has a vast wealth.

until Murray signs, bored hacks will link him to just about every Championship and asperational League 1 team, and no doubt 20 or so clubs probably would like the look of him. Trust in Gus and Tony to do the needful.

I think unless a bigger club come in with a substantially better offer that we can't/won't match he'll stay. Poyet as manager will be a huge factor in contract decisions - it's no coincidence that Murray and others are pllaying the best football of their careers under his, Tanno and Charlie's leadership.
