If my MP tried to punch me in the face I'd punch him back so hard he'd need to stick a toothbrush up his
arse to clean them.

All in self defence of course, ;)

Pressing charges isnā€™t actually a thing. It isnā€™t actually you, the person, deciding that, itā€™s the Crown. The police might ask whether you intend to ā€œsupport the prosecutionā€ by acting as a witness, but even if you decline they can proceed.

Assuming he pleads guilty, the point is moot. The police donā€™t have to tell the suspect that the witness isnā€™t cooperating, and heā€™d only find this out when the defence receive their witness list discovery pre-trial.

In my opinion, there is no chance this case gets that far as itā€™s open and close, and heā€™ll be advised on the strength of his case and his chances at trial pretty quickly.

Pleading guilty at the earliest opportunity affords the lightest possible sentence.
Out of interest is there a set percentage you can get off the overall custodial or suspended sentence if you plead
Guilty upfront?

Assuming if so, itā€™s dependent on the offence category?

There is a sliding scale, depending on where in the process you plead guilty. It ranges from one third (pleading guilty at the first opportunity*) to, IIRC, 10% for pleading guilty at the start of the trial. This is for all offences in a Magistrates court. Having said that, it doesn't always equate to "a third off". It can be, for an either-way offence, that not sending to Crown Court for sentencing is the discount ("we'll give you six months inside rather than sent to CC where you'd likely get more than that").

* "At the first opportunity" is why you sometimes see cases reported where, on the initial appearance, the defendant either declines to enter a plea or says "no plea" so that they can benefit from the full discount once they have had full disclosure of the case against them.

Yes. There is also the reality that upon questioning if the lead detective and the CPS are so inclined they can uplift charges.

For example if a defendant is particularly repugnant or has other allegations.

The most curious thing..
This is my MP you're all talking about.

Conspicuous by his absence during the recent election.

He might not be very left wing, but he has developed a very impressive left hook.

Ideal cellmate for little Tommy R.

Two vicious, violent thugs sharing a cell.

Delicious.
Tommy has also been caught on film sucker punching someone at an England game. He ran up to someone from behind and hit them. They could share tips.

This case will be sub judice so the facts or possible charges are not something one should be speculating about on a football forum - suffice to say, I found the video of an elected MP engaged in an apparently one sided physical attack rather shocking.
And cowardly...

Do you really believe what you are saying ? On what planet is assaulting someone when they are turning to walk away "understandable"
If someone threatened his family, if they'd been running a hate campaign against them, if it had been going on for years. I think there are circumstances where lots of decent people would snap.

Doesn't mean it happened here, of course - I'd just prefer it investigated properly rather than go straight to judgement. Quite possible the MP is unpleasant and had no cause at all - I don't know.

From the guardian.

The two men had been rowing about the temporary closure of Sutton Weaver swing bridge that connects Frodsham with the village of Sutton Weaver and is due for substantial repair works, a witness told the Times.

The bridge was due to be closed for several weeks in January and March, leading to a 20-mile detour for some local people, which Amesbury had previously called ā€œunacceptableā€. Though the planned closure is on hold and is scheduled to be moved to the half-term holidays to limit disruption, it remains extremely contentious locally.

A Labour source said the row also involved controversial cuts to the winter fuel payment.

And that led to an MP sucker punching a man in the face, then repeatedly punching him in the head while heā€™s on the ground? Crikey Riley crumbs and Crikey!
