This case will be sub judice so the facts or possible charges are not something one should be speculating about on a football forum - suffice to say, I found the video of an elected MP engaged in an apparently one sided physical attack rather shocking.

I worked in bars and clubs in Brighton many years ago (and hung out with a lot of bands) , and have to say, drunken brawls were two a dozen on a Saturday night - Had the misfortune back in the day to go to A&E one late Friday night for a nasty fall in the snow - absolutely packed with bloodied drinkers who’d got into it with other drinkers over some petty shlt or other.

However, apart from the fact that elected public officers even in their private lives, have a contractual duty usually not to bring their organisations into repute, an MP that feels provoked or ‘threatened’ (and most do sadly) has so many recourses at his or her fingertips that others don’t - including having access to policing and a named contact at their local police force to assist them in security matters as well as counselling. If the security stresses that go with the public office are still to much, even with all that, then they need to step away from the post/job - Labour did exactly the right thing and immediately suspended the whip.

This case will be sub judice
Covered above - almost certainly will be sub judice but until such time that he is arrested and brought before a magistrate, it isn’t.

Edit: nobody has said anything libellous and have sensibly stuck to commenting on the content of the videos. Any speculation made has actually been in his defence, including possible mitigating factors such as provocation.

Sub judice would not apply at this time. The video is being shown and commented on by every major news source.

These 2 comments come across as a bit like the 'she deserved to be raped because of the way she dressed / she acted beforehand' type excuses being made to justify an abhorrent action. They appear to be wild speculation at this point, being used to try to justify and excuse that sort of violent behaviour and to try to paint it as an acceptable form of action in the 'right' circumstances

If that really were the case here and there really were those sorts of comments / threats being made beforehand (by the victim in this case) then why not just simply call the Police and report it rather than resort to violence ?

I wonder if there would be the same view / attempt to excuse the behaviour being made if this had involved an MP from a different political party instead.
Well of course it would

er … did you misunderstand my post?

I said it “will” be. I also said ”suffice to say l” as part of the same sentence - therefore the ‘speculating’ comment refers to me not wanting to speculate. I haven’t read the whole thread so have no idea what has been ‘covered above’ anyway.

Where did I accuse anyone of being ‘libellous’ or there was anything wrong with the video being shown 😳😳😳

Your post was unnecessarily defensive and my comment taken out of context.

*sigh*. You’re a decent bloke but I really can’t be bothered with you sometimes. Have a good day.

Ah apologies then. I misunderstood your post.

Because you quoted me saying the case would be sub judice and that I didn’t want to speculate, I assumed your argument about nobody had been libellous on the thread or it was ok to post the video was directed at me.🤷‍♂️
edit - ie it sounded that you had taken my post it as a criticism of your thread (which it wasn’t !)

Prize fighters are skilled professionals, fighting in a controlled setting, rather than pissed up on concrete streets with no rules or oversight at 3am.

Fair enough for your view on boxing (I love it) which I completely understand, but I don’t think drunken street fights are quite the same personally, however fundamentally they seem on the surface
Being punched in the head is never a good thing, in a controlled setting with padded gloves or otherwise. I wonder how many of those who 'love boxing' would be willing to try it for themselves. The statistics for brain injuries/CTE are pretty grim and not always overt in boxers until much later in life.

Just saw the later video on Sky News, gets worse every time you see it. Repeatedly whacking the back of the skull of a defenceless person.

Wanker.
Agree. The next news will be his arrest.

Just seen this. Should go down for that in my opinion, but may not depending on what the story is when the case is heard.

Remind me to not comment on posts till I have read the replies :lolol:

(I do love the 'delete post' feature - my premature comment is now......deleted!).

The concern is any delayed impact to the victim.

Again not wanting to speculate or be overly dramatic about this but victims have died weeks later from blood clots caused by head traumas.

In the least, I hope his victim gets a CT scan - the videos are absolutely shocking.

As a labour member I am appalled and feel he should resign however I am old enough to remember John Prescott thumping someone again on camera the one Ness said she knew it was meant for her.
Prescott I do believe was not removed from his post did not loose the whip and remained a party member.
How times change

'That jab' was an instinctive reaction to some tw@t aggressively throwing an egg in his face at point blank, all literally in a microsecond.

I'm pleased Prescott kept his job and wasn't prosecuted.
