McDonalds is untouchable. They could sell us horse meat and we'd still see them on our high streets.....
I bloody wish they would offer horse meat - it's delicious.

I don't need proof as I made no assertions, unlike you. All I did was provide anecdotal evidence on why I believe that there aren't high levels of MSG in the food I have eaten there. Whilst there may well be naturally occurring MSG in some of their ingredients, they claim that they do not add MSG to their products in the UK. You have stated otherwise and are therefore either calling them liars with valid reason or you are libelling them.Care to remind me of these theories? haven't most of them turned out true!?
Oh and where's your evidence that McDonalds doesn't have MSG in it? The McDonalds website is no form of fair evidence when you consider what Burger King have been up to.
And are McD products the only ones that that is true of ? How does it compare to a 'respectable' restaurant meal ?

I have no desire to defend McDonalds but as someone who checks all food for added MSG to avoid reactions to my seeming intolerance, I doubt your claim. A lack of disproof does not prove your statement.
Although McDonald's has "cleaned their labels" of added MSG, they overuse autolyzed yeast, hydrolyzed protein, and natural flavors which they admit contain wheat and dairy hydrolysates (thanks to the allergen labeling law) - which contain free glutamate and act exactly like MSG.
no, theres simply not as much sugar added as some want to believe. assuming their nutritional info is correct, and it'd pretty easy to check. theres an amount in the bun and sauces, and the milkshakes have mental sugar amounts (about half a womans recommended daily intake). in the main its not any sweeter than any other food, probably alot less than "low fat" stuff that compensates with sugars.
No, I do not. I do accept that there is naturally occurring MSG in an awful lot of ingredients but I don't have the time or inclination to scour every ingredient of every McDonalds food item to check if they contain any of these. But I do know which ingredients are pure MSG of the type put in Chinese food, crisps, gravy and other fast foods as well as countless other foods and none of them are listed. McDonalds are unequivocal more than once on their website that none of their food contains any artificial flavour enhancers including MSG. You have unequivocally asserted otherwise. So the question remains. Do you have proof that isn't an opinion piece on a random website or are you libelling a multinational? So you accept there is MSG in McDonalds, but not as an added ingredient?

What's wrong with hydrolysates?
I actually don't care, the body is an amazing filtration device and nothing in moderation is going to do you any damage.
So now we get to the crux of the matter. You believe that McDonalds are liars so you have decided that because they say they do not put MSG in their food, because they are liars that therefore follows that there must be MSG in their food and have expressed this in written form in public view with no proof to substantiate your claim.I'm doubting the honesty of McDonalds. Is that random to you?

I'm sure that a lot of what they do could be construed as unethical and I know their food is in general nutritionally bad in large amounts. But this doesn't give anyone the right to state their opinion as fact when it actually appears to be libellous. You did not say you thought that there are some ingredients present which might explain addiction. You stated as fact that the company knowingly adds a flavour enhancer to cause addiction. Which they deny. And there appears little if no evidence that MSG is addictive. If it is, why aren't there Bisto dealers? Pot Noodle anonymous? Monster Munch substitutes to wean people off? MSG is generally added to add saltiness and in some cases, cover cheap ingredients. If it was so addictive, companies such as Walkers would not make such a big song and dance about removing it from their standard flavoured crisps.
Where are you getting your facts from?
MSG is a well-known compound in research circles used to fatten up rats for experimentation, because it dramatically increases insulin production. According to "Contemporary Nutrition," the food additive industry readily admits that MSG has addictive properties and can cause people to gain weight, but they justify its use by claiming that this can be beneficial to elderly persons who are sometimes malnourished. Glutamate, the main component of MSG, is the primary excitatory neurotransmitter in the brain, and it has been linked to neurological symptoms when taken in excess.
where did you get your unquoted copy and paste from, flutterby? just because another post on the internet said its addictive, doesnt make it so. adecdotal evidence doesnt make it so. double blind tests over decades say it isnt. so, it increases appetite, that does not mean it's addictive. glutamate is in wheat, barley, soy, cheese, peas, meat, corn... you addicted to these? i mean actually addicted rather than "mmm, fancy another slice of nice freash bread"?
and Maccy D reckon they dont add any MSG, so where's your evidence they are lieing?

To be honest, I really don't give a shit butI don't understand the need to start questioning me? I'm not the one causing obesity worldwide am I?
Anyways, you win the debate, you couldn't be more correct. Now go and enjoy your happy meal.
