I wouldn't think of comparing his loss to the loss of the family in any way, but for him it is more of a disaster that he was a professional footballer - when he's released in 3.5 years he won't be driving a range rover (or whatever he was driving) anymore and that whole lifestyle will be gone forever, along with his career and probably the girlfriend he walked into court with. It's not like he had some anonymous job out of the public eye and he's now got to sit in his cell contemplating not just what he's done to that family, but what he's done to himself. How many people get the chance to be a professional footballer, let alone represent England at Under 21 level?

I know he didn't deliberately kill anyone but the bloke was hammered and drove 2 hours after he stopped drinking and after 2 hours sleep. How anyone can defend that is beyond me

Yes but the abuse that Keepers can get with the away fans right behind them would make it almost impossible for him to concentrate on the game. I really can't see him coming back into the game, not in the UK anyway

that is a point i have been making for a while he would have to be of a very strong character to be able to play again being a keeper.

being in the plymouth area this subject has obvioulsy been discussed rather a lot down here has been my little brother's favourite argyle player for the last 5 years and he was really cut up about this when it come out.the opinion down here is pretty much the same as it has on here some want there one time hero locked up and the key thrown away and others are of the opinion of people like me and gareth that while he obviously needs to be punished locking him up for ever wont bring the kids back and i think this sentence is fair espcially when you consider what he has thrown away,for instance one of my facebook buddies who is argyle mad put on his status yesterday 7 years is that all.

i hope he does his time then is given a chance to try and rebuild his life all though im sure he will never ever forget or forgive himself

She has stood by him since though, and walked with him through the gauntlet of press and barracking public. Perhaps she exacerbated his jealousy and doubt.

I don't think anyone has defended him have they. What hey have said is his crime is not the same as a child murder who does it premeditated and enjoys it which is the impression Timmy seems to give.

There were witnesses at his trial suggesting that he had been driving like an idiot long before he ploughed into this family's car at 90mph. It's bad enough to drive that irresponsibly even when not under the influence of drink.

Personally I think seven years is too leniant given that he'll be out in 4.

is that right about him thinking she was playing away...knew they had a big bust up but thats the 1st time i have heard that rumour
he was also trying to get back to plymouth for ex team mate steve adams wedding after attending dave norris's in bolton on the friday but that didnt really require him leaving bolton at 4.30am for a 1pm wedding

You cannot seriously be arguing that driving at 10am after a nights sleep but still with enough alcohol in your system to be over the limit is any less irresponsible than what McCormick did. The circumstances were different in that it would appear he only got up in the middle of the night to drive back to try and save his relationship which was the subject of internet rumours. Totally irresponsible but then you seem to think it's ok to drive under the influence of alcohol provided you have had about 10 hours kip.

I'm not argueing that it's the right thing to do or claiming that it should be allowed but there is a huge difference between having alcohol in your system and being drunk. Driving 2 hours after a sesh he will still be drunk.

If you breath tested all the drivers at a Sunday League football ground when they arrive at 9.30 I bet at least a quarter would be over the DD limit, doesn't mean they were 'under the influence'. I'm sure you know as well as I do how your reactions are so much worse at the time you're drunk, not the next morning
