The May Day celebrations are about celebrating socialism in its many forms and protesting about capitalism in its many guises too. In TID's eyes its okay to criticise the capitalists as all bad but if you dare point out that socialism has ALWAYS managed to kill far more he usually bleats on about it not being his kind of socialism.

you're absolutley right about one thing though: the rage is impotent. i'm not so clueless that i haven't totally recognised that you have won. inequality (the very benchmark of capitalism) is at the highest it's been since the 18th century. so for this, you should be proud. and there is no sign of capitalism weakening. it's self-perpetuating nature forces it on, from strength to strength.

it's a sorry state of affairs but though i know i will never win, i just cannot sit quietyly and take the beating.

Excellent post, agree with your sentiments 100%. To me capitalism by it's nature is unltimately unworkable, and on a global scale creates huge inequalities. It's disgaceful that the majority of the world is disease ridden, hasn't got decent sanitation and works in apalling conditions for low wages. Huge multnational companies exploit entire nations so ultimately their profits are higher.

i'd have to disagree with you there, southy. capitalism (if we are to take it in its purest form, i.e. no economic protectionism, no welfare state whatseoever) is an awful idea in theory and hellish in practise. thankfully, it has rarely been put into this kind of practice (though buzzer's heroes thatcher and nixon made a good fist).

like so many ideas about the best way to run a society, the dreams that they may give on paper are soon quashed when faced with the realisation of the selfish, apathetic, ignorant and corruptable beast that is the human race.

i still bleat on about it because i think it's important to express your views and spread ideas but in terms of making any significant change to the way the world is, i've long since learned just to give up.

Humans are not a collective mass of caring shared interestonaughts. We are evil, selfish beasts requesting personal gain, and satisfaction in only feeling angry at the change of TV schedules, bus-number alterations, holes in roads that affect the price of our dusty boxes, homeless people begging too loudly or having dirty hair, perverts, national industries, the unemployed, tracksuit-bottom-wearers, happy black people, the invasion of foreigners in our never-before-trodden-on-Bulldog-soil, pornmags evicted from certain shelves we are used to and proud of.
Capitalism is perfect for the world of foul-hearted, lawless competitivism. Gates on doors and social ladders.

Socialists, like me, like to pretend we care a great deal for the inhabitants of this land or the world that spins without me under foot. And i think we do. We have ideas for things that we believe may benefit people we haven't met or seen pictures of, from streets we've never seen or need to feel afraid of, and perhaps feel guilty for some our actions.
I am an idiot for talking collectively. I feel guilty for knowing my acts may forsake or damage another. So i sit satisfied as a vegetarian who will only work for a not-for-profit organisation until he dies, believing i am better than you, no matter who you are.

Politically and socially speaking, all has come down to sales in this shallow land of ours. There's a moral decay, i suppose.

Anyway, to sum up my thoughts on this, i think everyone is a ****.
