The tweet is odd. And I say that as someone who firmly believes dropping Matty was the right thing for our club. I think Sanchez’s towering performances speak for themselves, but I also point to how suddenly our defence appears a lot more collective and solid, and reassured with Sanchez in the team.

Can only imagine Matty being dropped was not taken well. Possibly. And to be honest, you’d expect that reaction from any ultra competitive elite sportsman.

BUT.. maybe it is simply a deal has been agreed for him to move on already, he could have signed a contract with another team or made plans, and the club doesn’t feel it’s right to include him in their social media PR campaign.

I don’t think so - simply wouldn’t be interested in being no. 2, so looking for his next move.

He was the right keeper at the right time for us - we had plenty of players comfortable with defending set pieces (Duffy, Murray, Stephens, Bruno) plus Dunk and his remit was give it to Bruno or Dunk to move forward.

Under Potter he was required to play the ball more with his feet, and was more vulnerable at set pieces.

It remains to be seen whether Sanchez is the man, but he is more commanding, better with the ball at his feet and has extra height so fits the template of what is required now.

Ryan has not suddenly become a worse keeper, it's just our playing style has changed. And Ryan's fingertip save vs Southampton is still the best save I've seen an Albion keeper make since Kuipers double save vs Wolves.

Interesting view - the way I’ve seen it is with ball at feet is one area where Maty excels (outstanding control and equally good with either foot), and we’ve actually been playing the ball longer with Sanchez in goal.

Yeh, Robbie's mostly been booting it up and asking Trossard etc to compete with CB's for a header.

That's a big part of the reason why our possession has been lower

Goalkeeping is such a specialised position that whilst Potter has the ultimate decision, I would imagine that Ben Roberts has a bigger say in things.

Yes he is in a bad run of form and that's why I said that on form he is our best keeper. At the moment he is better then Steele and I haven't seen enough of Walton to make a judgement so I would say he is behind Sanchez but ahead of the other 2.

Don't forget Stockers double penalty save against Massive at the Amex in our promotion season. but reluctantly l think it's time for Maty to practice his goodbye speech.

He will always be remembered by me as our first ever goalkeeper in the Premier League, and to my mind the best to don the gloves, up until the present time anyway.

He might have, he might indeed be a better footballer than Sanchez but so far under the new man I haven't had any 'heart in mouth' moments pinging it around our box (although that may be because he hasn't had to play with Duffy).

First one confirms what I thought - Ryan passed the ball short quite a lot more than Sanchez does (2/3 instead of half the time, approx). That will partly explain why there are fewer heart in mouth moments with Sanchez too.

Think the issue with Ryan is that he maybe ok on short passes but when need he is not able to hit it any distance, little 9 iron chips upfield. Sanchez can hit it into the other half with ease. Stats will show it as a misplaced pass however we now often get the second ball or a throw in, not in our half or on halfway but well into the oppositions half. This was very evident against Man City and Leeds.
