Nobody believes that he's not good enough to be challenging Sanchez.

He's certainly a far better keeper than Steele so why isn't he at least on the bench?

Then the club put out social media with the keepers involved and no sight of Ryan.

For someone who has been a good clubman in the time they have been at the club and contributed to us staying up several seasons to just seemingly wipe his presence from the club out with no explanation does create a shit look.

 Oh gawd!

1). He probably is good enough (when in form) to challenge Sanchez - but Sanchez is now our number one unless or until he loses his place.
2). Steele is on the bench because his job is specifically to be our reserve keeper on match days; that has been made quite clear to all who care to listen.
3). Ryan was on the club's social media around Christmas time (so I've been reliably informed by people on NSC).
4). He's been dropped and replaced by a keeper the manager prefers to use. That's football. It happens. End of.

You're talking crap - yesterday the club tweeted out a "Wallpapers Wednesday" with Sanchez and Steele:-

[TWEET]1351839386669899779[/TWEET]

The club had tweeted out one for Ryan back in December:-

[TWEET]1334052181494829056[/TWEET]

Potter has gone on record as saying that he thinks Steele performs the "sub 'keeper" role very well - he obviously sees that as a very particular job and believes Steele is best suited to perform it.

Ryan has been dropped, simple as, but he hasn't been treated shabbily in any way whatsoever.

What an absolute load of rubbish.

Ryan is better than Steele. If Sanchez gets injured you want your next best PL keeper in the game.

Not some third stringer.

That he didn't even make the Newport game squad speaks volumes of how he's being pushed out of the club.

Exactly. Plus he’s being paid £40k per week in the meantime. It’s not the worst life in the world. He’ll have no worries getting another club.

Depends how you see it.

If you’re putting your faith in a young keeper as your number 1, do you really want the former number 1 looking over your shoulder all the time? Travelling with the match day squad?

Is that going to help Sanchez?

Would that be good for morale?

And making our third string keeper the back up keeper is a stupid idea.

You want to have your one and two challenging each other.

Not having some third string lower league keeper coming on in the PL if your starting keeper is injured.

Sanchez hardly has to do much to keep the likes of a Steele out of the starting job.

And if Sanchez gets injured and we're left with Steele starting it's hello to the Championship.

If Sanchez gets injured he would be replaced for the next match by Ryan or Walton. Simples. No problem.

Anyway, you keep on moaning about Ryan being mistreated and Steel being on the bench. Fine. That's no problem for me either.

The Albion getting shit canned out here for the outward disrespect and treatment of Ryan.

Club doesn't look good in how it's handled it outwardly.

Anther tremendous post. Sales of Maty Ryan tops plummet in Geelong. Ex pat wanders into the outback for 40 days and 40 nights, emerging as himself. Sack the board. Said nobody

Nobody on here knows the background to Ryan losing his place in the team, but we could all see there was a keeper that wasn't doing a great job at keeping, hence he was dropped. It happens.

Having been an automatic choice for several years, and wanting to maintain an International place, I suspect he did not react well to this. Resulting in GP completely binning him off. If thats how it played out then GP would have my full backing.

Just blindly saying RYAN MUST STAY AND PLAY is nonsense. You don't know what went on. Sanchez has looked the part and deserves to keep his place. The backup keeper is always a graveyard shift, and probably not one Ryan thinks is worthy of him, so its probably best he pops off.

Why though?

Other clubs shift players out all the time.

How about the way we treated Bernardo? Montoya? Dale? Glenn?

This is elite football. The life of a footballer. No ones doing favours, these guys are paid elite wages, and if the club feel a player isn’t performing and there’s a better option for the team (and let’s be honest. Most here I think are behind Sanchez now), then the club are entitled to make a change.

We’ve all seen Sanchez make key saves already, and i think we’ve all observed a notable improvement in the back line because of it.

GP said Sanchez or Walton will be starting against Blackpool (Steele is sick).

Ryan is not part of the clubs plans and from how it sounded, the club is not part of Ryans plans.

What GP essentially got to choose between is either a keeper who is mentally off to somewhere else or someone who is comfortable and enthusiastic about the role as backup keeper.

That it might be percieved as "disrespectful" matters very little, elite football is (unfortunately?) not charity.

You’re being wilfully ignorant though.

If you as a manager choose to put massive faith in a young goalkeeper, do you think it helps him having the no doubt pissed off former number 1 constantly looking over his shoulder?

If he’s number 2 that also means he’s in every single match squad.

Do you think that would help or hinder Sanchez’s performance? Do you think that would be good for morale on match days, or when travelling?

If Mattys time has come, it’s come. Time to move on. Better for everyone.

I know who I’d prefer between the sticks if we had a penalty against us (which isn’t unusual).

Did Ryan ever save a penalty for us?

Was Steele between the sticks when we stayed up in the PL for several seasons?

Facing the likes of Liverpool, Man City etc week in week out is a fair bit harder than playing in a cup game vs Newport .
