Fair play that does make me feel. better. He does say you can always improve via transfer market but it’s definitely less opinionated that the previous interview which was the one that worried me.
We would probably all have liked to have seen a couple more players signed to strengthen our position but that not the reality. Do you not think that De Zerbi would always like to have better players, all managers do, it makes them look better but that does mean they will strop off if the don't get them.

If you are asked at work do you want a new laptop, 35 hour weeks, swivel chair, recipe for lemon ice cream, etc you are going to say yes but you are not demanding them to stay.

There is a big difference between demanding and wanting.

Any sensible senior football coach will realise you can’t make things happen that others don’t want to happen, which is why Caicedo is still with us! But RDZ will also have respect and not want to plunder players willy nilly from his old club because he is a decent bloke at a decent club.

I must have missed this - when was it publicised that Brighton had pulled out of their talks with SD? Did they literally end because Brighton refused to pay out £20 m? With all the big money made from Biss and Cucu, from GP going the Chelsea, plus £27m from Tross -etc - surely plugging up our defence with a Champions level defender was worth the investment ☹️
No idea of why, or if its just off for now or for good.

Argus transfer centre reported yesterday morning.

Widely been reported he’s on verge of signing an extension under 2028.

Still possible we might go in for him again in the summer - but assume asking price will reflect that. Shaktar are also hard negotiators.

True, won't necessarily be the case. But Roberto De Zerbi has already walked from one job (his beloved Foggia) because the owner didn't renew the contract with Guillaume Gigliotti and also didn't sign replacements for Pietro Iemmello and Gianluca Di Chiara. Roberto and the owner agreed that the ambition for Foggia was to end up in 1st place in Serie C but when Roberto wasn't given the tools he thought he need to do that (they did win the league with 11 points though), he walked. Not saying that would be the case in Brighton but you don't need a wild imagination to think it could happen.

I suspect there will be some investment I'm the summer. Also while he's been here he has seen Macallister, Caicedo, Lallana, March and hopefully soon Mitoma all extend their contracts. Can't say fairer than that really.

I'm with you.

Defenders from the Ukrainian league in the PL has often been meh (attacking players better though), if this guy is going to cost a lot of money it just seems better to go for Colwill.
Increasingly looking as if both would be out of our price range. Shakhtar understandable protecting their asset. Chelsea won't countenance a sale in my view.

I'm sure we've got another plan.

There’s not many high quality left footed centre backs who fit the profile and price we’ll be looking for.

Hincapie at Leverkusen is going to be available but he shares the same agent as Moises, and will have other clubs interested,

Facundo Medina from Lens could be interesting, and is a current Argentine international.

I'd love Colwill personally, but I think he'll be prohibitively expensive and significantly more than the previous record outlay for Webster. Marc Guehi cost £18-20m after a season and a bit in the Championship. Colwill had that and a solid debut season in the Premier League. If he does go, I'd be delighted if we got him for anywhere close to £25m but if I were Chelsea I wouldn't let him go for that. That said, Chelsea's hierarchy are idiots, so anything's possible.

Agree he will be expensive and definitely kill off that record. I do think the club feels it might be worth it however.

I'd rather Colwill too. We turned down 30m for White so at a guess we'd be looking north of that.

I think it would be a good investment as in a couple of years time we'd have a player potentially worth double or more of that and he'd still only be 22. He's a player that would need no adaptation period either unlike anyone coming in from abroad and would be an excellent addition to the homegrown quota.

I think Colwill would seriously consider it too, particularly if we end up in Europe. He knows us, he knows this manager and team and knows he's a highly regarded member of it. He doesn't have that at Chelsea. And Chelsea have to sell this summer. Their squad is bloated and they've spent about 17billion on 452 different players this season so need to recoup some money.

I seem to remember reading somewhere that the attraction of selling homegrown players will appeal more to them as they would represent 100% profit on their balance sheet? Which would obviously be attractive from a FFP perspective given their record outlay in the last 2 windows. No idea as the accuracy of this statement so happy to stand corrected.

Although this probably just means they'll settle for flogging Mount, Loftus-Cheek and Chalobah. I would love for us to be able to secure Colwill permanently.
