Sure the club would of taken into account the Ben White / Leeds situation as part of the loan deal if Matt / Derby have a successful season and end up in the Premier League

And if Derby go up, would we keep him, or sell them to him, strengthening a rival?

CLARKE MAKES DERBY RETURN

Defender returns to Derby for second season-long loan move.

Matt Clarke has re-joined Sky Bet Championship side Derby County on loan for the upcoming 2020/21 campaign.

The 23-year-old completed a successful season-long loan with the Rams in July, capping an excellent campaign by winning the Player of the Season award at Pride Park.

The former Portsmouth and Ipswich Town defender joined Albion last summer, and will spend the forthcoming season with Phillip Cocu’s side.

Technical director Dan Ashworth said, “Matt was a standout player in the Championship last season and this led to us receiving interest from several clubs for the new campaign.

“We will keep a close eye as Matt looks to build on the excellent progress he made at Derby last season and we wish him well.”

Few Derby fans claiming buy option. Any ideas if true?

Interesting revision to the initial press release...

Would we have let Matt Clarke go if we didn’t expect White to sign a new contract?

Seems reasonable.

Being the best player at a second tier club that's trading on past glories.

Also the added bonus that, even if they are 11 points clear of 3rd with 4 games to go, they won't get promoted. (#thederbyway)

So they won't start getting ideas above their station about him being one of their players.

Presumably yes if there was a recall option OR that we know we're not letting Duffy leave until White signs?

We’ll see but I think the modern Albion have their ducks lined up before they commit to anything, what you suggest sounds a bit hit and miss to me

Can't see why we would allow one - wouldn't be any advantage for us. In fact it would just limit our options.

It was 3 separate fans in the MC to derby twitter feed yesterday all claiming the option to buy was in the contract (and claiming some DCFC source?)...... ofc could all be bollox, just wondering if anything more official on that yet.

Doesnt make any sense to do it imho, unless its for around the 20 million mark (which I guess Derby wouldn't go for), that's the going rate for the best championship CBs and ballpark of what he should be worth if he does well again, give or take a few million next spring.

loan to buy only makes sense with players whom you are sure they're future lies elsewhere, like knocky,

Yes indeed which is why I expect there is a recall option for Clarke - covering both bases /Duffy leaving/White leaving - and allowing Clarke to step in as back up behind Veltman/Dunk/Webster.

Maybe, but probably not needed. As things seem to be shaping out, compared to this time last year we've gained Veltman, White and Lamptey and are losing Duffy and Montoya, so we're plus 1 in the defensive department.

(actually forgot Schelotto, so I guess we're even)

Potentially getting recalled apparently. Possibly due to concerns over derby finances
