So which one of Dunk, White or Webster do you want to leave out? Potter's nightmare!

Would be good cover for any of them and possibly better than BDB on the left of 3...... Often when White is pushed into DM role

Have always said this is biggest problem Potter doesnt seem to want to make up his mind on defensive system or who to play. Takes easy way out by keeping them happy by playing all of them. Dare I say it if we had accepted £25m for White and spent it on a forward it would have solved Potters problem

Potter's been desperate to play 5 at the back since he arrived. He started his reign with a back 3 of Duffy, Burn and Dunk against Watford. After going the following six games without a victory he reverted to a back four at home to Tottenham and the win rate picked up. He played three at the back five more times last season, Sheff Utd (1-1), Tottenham (2-1), Everton (1-0), Southampton (1-1) and Burnley (1-2) all away. This season he has reverted back to his original system for the team and it hasn't worked out as planned. This season he seems to be sticking with it though. I don't think it is anything to do with personal, results were very similar in that first run (lots of draws against teams around us and losses to teams above us plus the Southampton/Andone debacle) and he was pretty settled with Burn, Duffy, Dunk and Webster. He's upgraded from Duffy to White and the record has largely remained the same...

Record under Potter.

5 at the back = Played 29, Won 4 (14%), Drawn 13 (45%), Lost 12 (41%).
4 at the back = Played 27, Won 7 (26%), Drawn 9 (33%), Lost 11 (41%)

If this Polish site bemoaning the loss of Karbownik is anything to go by, his fan's will be as much fun as Percy's:

Good grief can you imagine the pc shit storm now re you joey, was a bit out of order to be fair. I can think of some others we used to say at school in the 80’s terrible really.

It was Blue Peter's fault for massively over estimating the empathy of your average British primary school kid. They had to be really out of touch to not realise that kids are inherently wankers, and that it would just result in mass belming (non-80s kids will have to Google that) in playgrounds up and down the country from the day after the Joey episode was broadcast.

I wonder if he ever found his shoe?

£25m?

That’d be a joke amount.

Thank goodness you’re not in charge of club finances. And btw we have that amount for a forward I think. It’s more that they haven’t found the right player + not breaking wage budget that’s the trick.

Secondly there is rarely a “best 11” approach these days, it’s quite old school.

I think it does. If we play 4 at the back, he has to leave one of Webester/White out, which would be very difficult. Plus, March can't be LB and Potter doesn't seem to rate Bernardo, so we can't play a back 4.

YES YES YES to him coming back.
Matt Clarke should definitely get opportunities. Quality player.
Pompey fans rated him more highly than Webster.

I remember the game at Crawley in the 2019 preseason - Matt Clarke was making some BOMBING runs forward like Webbo does.

Overlapping centrebacks, just like Sheffield Unite.......ohhh!

The fellas theory is fine on a messageboard.

But the whole plan is predicated on there being a striker, who we can get for £25m, whose wages fit within our structure, who crucially wants to come to us, rather than someone else.

If there was someone like that, I think we'd have bought him and then decided whether we needed to sell to cover the purchase price.

But we didn't ..... which leads me to believe that the 20 goals a season striker supermarket was closed that day

...and who actually works out.

Spending such a sum on Brewster hasn’t quite solved all of Sheffield United’s issues.

I have been known to use the phrase "You Joey!" even to this day.

Fortunately anyone under the age of 45 has no idea where it comes from.

Exactly.

It makes sense in isolation, but I’m sure the transfer fee is not the issue. Wages. Plus the right player (ie, better than what we have).

And even with all that, Ben White for £25m would have been robbery. And I’m sure the club felt the same way hence the immediate bid rejections.

He’s been v unlucky imho.
He has the hairline of a 40yo which makes him look old, but he’s actually quite young.
Get him in.
