Gotcha . I'm with @jackalbion - keep an eye out for Freddie SImmonds.
Well yes.

But I used the term conveyor belt deliberately. The gap from the time JPVH and Ostigard came through, to the time Simmonds does, is about 5 years.

Not criticising the clubs youth strategy. We just seem to keep packing the youth teams with attacking midfielders and currently don't have anyone playing for the u23's,, who could obviously fill a 5th centre back type role right now

Well what do we know?

I don't think one single NSC member mentioned Hinshelwood in May 2023 when it was clear Caicedo and Ali Mac would leave.

Think the conveyor is slowing a little, there are some very good prospects in that side, just maybe a few years younger, I'd be surprised if we don't see Simmonds around the first team equation soon.
Certainly our outfield loanees didn't have much success out on loan last season (apart from Leonard, who we've got rid of!) and didn't enthuse the fans at their host clubs, apart from Sarmiento in the second half of the season at Ipswich, but even there mostly as a super-sub.
A couple of them (Turns and Weir) who had previous successful loans didn't do nearly as well this past season either.

Well what do we know?

Yes, this is always a hope - for instance, Ayari wasn't appreciated at all at Coventry (the loan was pulled because it wasn't doing him any good) and Blackburn, but suddenly turned up looking very good in midfield in Japan. And of course, Hinshelwood had never had a significant loan at all.

Blackburn would take him back, according to what Ayari said in June:

“I spoke to the coach before I left and he wants me back there, but we will see what happens.

“I think it is time for me to play and develop even more, that is the most important thing.”

That's encouraging, certainly. I don't think the fans' forum will be overjoyed though!

He was playing for the 18s then, as soon as he came onto the scene he caught my eye, might have mentioned it in a few U21 reviews. Remember a very good game against Valencia U21s. (April 2023 was my first mention :lolol: )

I'm going to give Ayari and Moran benefit of the doubt at Blackburn, especially Moran, having watched him a lot for the U21s he's a very talented player and showed glimpses last season at Blackburn. I think Blackburn ended up being a bit of a mess in the second half of the season, they were in play off contention earlier in the season and ended up only staying up on the final day, change of manager straight after Ayari was brought in also I imagine affected things. Very surprised to see Weir Involved, had two very poor loans last season. The U21s are looking quite bloated in areas other than defence will be interesting to see what happens to a few of them, whether they get on decent loans.

Not that i'm giving this any credence.

But in theory, could the idea be that he is an understudy for Wieffer's position as a defensive midfielder? Almost playing as a sweeper. No real need for pace, just use experience to step across and play simple passes into midfield.

Even as i'm typing this it sounds a little implausible

Pace, Shirley, is one thing we desperately need at the back imo. Of course experience counterbalances that but some pace somewhere is essential if we’re playing a high line

Only way I can see this makes sense is if we think Igor is going. Selling Igor for a decent amount of money and getting Hummels in on a free for a season or two would be ok in my book
