And if he were to partner him with Dunk I am not sure that works, but what do i know.

Even in a 3 Hummels would have to play central of those i would imagine, and Dunk cannot play IMO left or right side of a 3

I did lol. Anyone. Dunk becomes second/joint first choice and we play a 3 more often. If we sign him it's because Hummels is happy with what we're offering and Hurzeler believes he can keep whoever else we keep in that position happy.

2, can't see FH playing three at the back (although I might be proved wrong on it, but still doubt it'll be the case)

Yes, agreed. I can see this being a tricky scenario but maybe would allow us to let Igor move back to Italy and recoup his fee. However, would it impact on JPVH’s development. Perhaps it would help him playing alongside Hummels by giving Dunky a few breaks during the season.

With a new, exciting, German coach and an existing relationship with Dortmund, this makes an interesting possibility.

Dortmund don’t have much to do with it, he’s a free agent.

I would imagine the fact Fabian knows both Hummels and his Dad (was his youth coach at Bayern for a number of years) would be much more important. Could be an existing relationship there already that might swing it our way.

A long-term injury to Lewis Dunk last season would have immediately turned us into a struggling side.
I was concerned all last season about how thin in quality and experience our defence would be without Lewis Dunk.

Mats Hummels would be a sensational signing and another amazing mentor for our youngsters.
I'm not allowing myself to begin hoping that this or Matt O'Riley will happen.
But if it did, plus already signed Wieffer and hopefully Diego Gomez then my mojo would be pushing maximum.

And that is without the excitement of Minteh and the return of Mitoma and Hinshelwood.

With about 45 games a season I'm sure we can keep everyone involved and happy.

If we then move to a back 3, to incorporate Hummels, then you wouldn't need Wieffer in a defensive midfield position. Presumably then he gets pushed forward into a more box to box role.

I still think it's more likely it's a 3 into 2 centre backs situation. You would imagine JPVH misses out

Being a side with the only German manager in the Premier League, also the club that Pascal Groß flourished at, and if Hummels was in our side then we will clearly be on the map of our German cousins.

It can only be a positive for the future growth and awareness of Brighton as a club and a city for any future signings or visitors from the Fatherland.

Just say we did play a back 3 of Hummels, Dunk, Van Hecke, had Wieffer centre mid and Welbeck up front.

That’s got to be the biggest goal threat we’ve ever carried from set pieces yeh? I mean Shane and Muzza were good, but that’s only 2 to defend really

We might be adding further 6 foot 2 options.

Don't know... Hummels is great but I'm sure about his impact on tourism. When was the last time you went to Rome to watch Chris Smalling?
