Here's a theory I have regarding Marseille and the lack of news regarding announcements for tickets/ticket collection point. Obviously at the moment with the rugby w/c and it coinciding with our visit there is a "rugby village" down at the old port which in effect is a fan park, coincidentally it isn't being used on the day of our game. I wonder if the club have looked into the possibility of us having use of the facility for the day?

I don't think that will happen tbh, I was in Marseille at the weekend and the place was heaving with ENG, ARG, SCO and RSA fans plus a few other countries.

I visited the "Fan Village" or whatever it is called and it was lame sadly. Full of Jocks in kilts with Argentina shirts on and kids (who are probably their target audience) so much like a 'Spoons most days!! There is no way they will open it for a few Albion fans.

The people I feel sorry for are those in the top tier who have registered interest but are either unwilling to travel 2/3 days by themselves or are unable to master the complexity of booking travel and accommodation abroad. Seagulls Travel would be their normal port of call, or even booking a return rail ticket to an away game in England, where the would be a high chance of meeting fellow fans.
As we have seen in this thread, there is a high number of various routes and travel plans.
These people are probably still hoping that the announcement of ticket sale dates will be accompanied by some proposal of group travel. But it is not going to happen at this late stage.
If you want to do something like travel abroad you do need to take some responsibility and organise it yourself. That’s ‘one’ not ‘you’ specifically. If that’s too difficult then maybe watching on tv might be more sensible anyway.

Update on Marseille - I went to the Scotland vs South Africa match on Sunday. After very worrying reports about the ground we parked up near the old port and walked to the ground via a very nice vietnamese restaurant and a couple of bats - it’s about an hour’s walk. there was a brilliant friendly atmosphere outside the ground (unfortunately something you are unlikely to get at a football match).
The stadium is really quite spectacular - you can see it miles away.
after the game there were horrendous queues on the metro. We walked back but made sure we were with another group of fans. It could feel a bit intimidating if you were on your own.
as for Marseille, it’s a great city - I didn’t like the ol port so much as it is very touristy but go a block away and you are in le Panier which is far more hipster and interesting.
if you are staying for a few nights you may like to consider Aix-le-Provence which is a great town - about half an hour away. We stayed in L’Estaque an old fishing village which is now in the Marseille conurbation but still has a lot of charm

A bit condescending. I’m sure plenty of those fans, who by definition go to a lot of away games, are capable of arranging travel themselves, without the assistance of nurse or their valet.

I didn’t see it as condescending at all. I’m sure there’s quite a few elderly fans who want to travel but maybe are not as savvy with the mine-field of organizing travel like many of us are; as this thread has shown, even some experienced travelers are getting caught out with cancelled bookings.

Must be arguing over ticket allocation with the police, only reason why taking so long when all other clubs away trips for the same week are done?

I don't see it as condescending either. I think there are likely to be quite a few fans that would wait for an official Albion ticket would not feel confident in buying a ticket off the Marseille website and sit among the home fans.
Also travelling with just a small backpack and using local transport. And when you add in the dynamic pricing of flights I feel it will mean quite a few fans won't bother.
The majority of our fans will feel confident.
I still think that particularly in Marseille all Albion fans that want a ticket and have pre-registered will get one.

I took the reference to 'top tier' fans as being people who travel to a lot of away games rather than 'elderly fans' in particular. Not sure how many of the latter attend most away games on their own but if they do, I’m sure they can work out that arranging a few days in Athens, say, for a football match, is not much different from arranging a few days in Athens for a short holiday. If they’re unwilling or incapable of doing that I don’t think they’ll be the types tempted to travel on their own in the first place. People who use Seagull Travel for away games do so for convenience I suspect, rather than because they’re incapable of arranging their own travel.

I disagree.

Surely we must be getting close to an announcement soon? Sitting on 243 points so holding off cancelling a work shift/booking travel to see if can get ticket…..

I think it's pretty rubbish that its not been sorted out by now. Giving people 3 weeks notice for some isn't enough for things like work, childcare etc... (let alone sorting out travel arrangements)

Once again, highlights the total lack of consideration to fans that actually go to games by authorities.
