Nah I think you're wrong. Theres some nice(ish) 4 star hotels in that area including Novotel. It's not as nice as the port but still fairly decent

The newly revitalized area of La Joliette is a nice area to stay just north of the Old Port. This area in the 2nd arrondissement holds the business district, known as Euromed Centre. La Joliette also includes the Docks de Marseille and Marseille Cathedral. Additionally, Place de La Joliette is one of Marseille’s most popular and bustling markets.


Les Terraces du Port shopping mall houses top French and international brands, with lovely views of the port from its namesake terrace. La Joliette is only 10 minutes by car or public transport from the Old Port, allowing simple access to the town centre.

Looks like we will have 45 mins to pick up the tickets once the bus arrives! 30 mins walk from station to la joliette or 10 min taxi

Google Maps says 20 minute walk from the station to La Joliette. I'm sure the club will be a little flexible about ticket collection

I've been to Marseille once and don't remember much but looking at the map la joliette is literally next to the old port and also on the water. In fact the intercontinental hotel which is the most expensive in the whole of Marseille is pretty much on the border of the old port and la joliette. And there's some good looking restaurants in the area.

The border bit is ok- the further inland you go towards the station less so

Not sure about the entitled bit as well , once the police have their say which could completely negate the mandatory 5%

Why would police provide advice that would negate our 5% entitlement. Would it be down to the history of fixtures between BHA and Marseilles or due to the azure blue Europa tops clashing too much with Les Bleu Blues?

Marseille fans can be very dangerous, don't think you can just go drinking and mix with them. Stay in official groups.
There are some lovely areas around Marseille to visit and stay. Please be careful.

Anyone else read the travel conditions?

You can be arrested fined for just being English - (Someone needs to let Stuart Lee know) if you go into the old port area.

Don't wear colours or anything that could identify you as a Brighton fan anywhere in Marseille.

Which is a useful distinction because I note there is a warning about the pickpocketing risk in Marseille, and the “guidance” requests visiting fans to take “precautions”.

The very next bit of “guidance” however infers visiting fans should carry their passport at all times.

I laughed out loud at this bit and decided all the guidance must be a load of old bollox.

I will however take standard precautions whenever I’m abroad and keep my passport (and other valuables) safe by not carrying it round with me……………not because of pickpocketing but because I will be on the sauce all day, including down in the old port.

Only imbeciles would go drinking all day (whether in France or England for that matter) with their passports!

This looks really good. Open until midnight so might try and pop in after the match.

The one in Paris is very good, one of the best cocktail places in the city.
