Reports that referee Mark Halsey ( excellent at the Amex this season) and his wife, both recent cancer victims, were abused online by Liverpool supporters after yesterday's game. They just don't get it do they? Want everyone else's support and sympathy but are quite happy to dish out the abuse!

A couple of twitter posts, (literally,) from what I gather saying that the world would be better off if he had died of cancer and they hope his wife dies as well ??? Frankly not really representative of Scousers as a whole just a few idiots like any other football team. I guarantee if the Mancs had received that performance he would have had the same from them.

Two Twitter users out of how many Liverpool fans worldwide? Oh sure, it's enough to present 'they' as representing the actions of the whole of their fanbase.... Yeah, right.

Exactly. Highlight the behaviour of a few thunts to criticise a whole group of people. Classy, but effective.

Shall we mention the BHA logo on the EDL march? Not people I want to be associated with, but they're Brighton fans too.

Mark Halsey did have a shocker though at anfield both key decisions he got wrong!. Just because he had Cancer does not mean he cannot be criticised again FFS. Obviously wishing he died is not on but saying he had a shocking game and should be reprimanded is perfectly acceptable.

Along with Mark Lawrenson I think he got those decisions right. I see you're in the Alan Green camp.

There weren't 76,000 at OT singing the "Always the victim....." song, but you wouldn't have realised that reading and listening to the media for the last ten days though...

This.

Any referee expects to get some stick (can't be easy at times), but regardless of their performance on the pitch to make comments like that is totally out of order!

It's just a stupid kid coming out with a stupid comment. Not worth wasting police time IMO.

How often have we (and other teams) sang 'let him die' when a player has been injured for example?

What are you talking about? He got them absolutely right - and the TV replays proved that. You're obviously a scouser / Liverpool fan in disguise.

It was more than just a couple of posts. Plus there are videos flying around twitter of people in the home stands shouting abuse at the linesman and Van Persie as he is about to take the penalty. Whole sections of the crowd giving abuse, chanting Munich and other expletives that I won't say for fear of upsetting Google.

There aren't many people other than Liverpool supporters that think the ref got the decisions wrong. Most think they were spot on. Yet again, they feel victimised by the FA, by the ref, by everyone else. It's all a conspiracy against them, the league is corrupt. If anyone is still looking for meaning behind the chant 'always the victim...' it's here.

If you want a true representation, follow the RAWK Meltdown account on twitter, hilarious. @RAWK_Meltdown

Well he didn't, he actually called it spot on.

He has reported to the police and an investigation is under way. Hopefully these disgusting "fans" will be brought to justice, although seeing as the twitter user who tweeted Tom Daley about the death of his Dad got away without punishment, I doubt it.

I don't actually think Halsey was wrong based on the laws of the game for the Shelvey decision. It was an unneccesary lunge and you can interpret the rules very easily to suggest that he was "off the ground and not in control" = Red card. I do think the same can be said for Evans though too.

For the penalty, Halsey was directly behind the play and Johnson lunged in and didn't get the ball. From that angle I expect a penalty to be given, the fact that Valencia already well on his way down is, in my opinion, irrelevant.

Two Liverpool players make rash challenges and were punished according to the rules. The only mistake he made was not sending off Evans too.

I'm all for criticising referees when they have a poor game but in this case, I don't think Halsey was that bad. Now Mark "every decision I make is wrong" Clattenburg? There's a shocking referee, but even he doesn't deserve to be wished dead.
