Mark Halsey did have a shocker though at anfield both key decisions he got wrong!. Just because he had Cancer does not mean he cannot be criticised again FFS. Obviously wishing he died is not on but saying he had a shocking game and should be reprimanded is perfectly acceptable.

er, just because he had a few (debatable) bad decisions doesnt mean he should be abused like this. Liverpool fans should know better, its a shame on them if they dont, and they dont drop all that Munich crap either.

Always a few idiots, as were the very small number of mancs singing their chants at Anfield on Saturday.
We have a few, palace have loads, all clubs have a section of people not fit to be a part of the human race.
He didn't have a good game, but he is a decent bloke who usually gets it right and he, his wife, in fact no-one decerves such shite written about them.

No he didnt. Shelvey was off the floor and reckless, a red all day long. Evans & scholes' tackles were timed well and both got the ball. Johnson bundled Valencia over from behind. What exactly was incorrect? I'm no man u apologist but it's just fashionable to claim they get all the decisions, like saying coldplay are shit. Ignore when the decision is spot on, it's just because they're united isn't it??

Decisions have to be made by a referee and they will not please everybody. It is clear to me that he did not make any clear errors and had a really good game. Brendan Rodgers has gone down in my estimation and needs to concentrate on the job in hand at Liverpool where he is being found wanting.

I met him when he was refging one of our 'home' games at Gillingham. He came across as a really nice guy and I was so pleased he got over his cancer. Life's not been so good to him. Everyone has a bad day, and I am not surprised that the split second view of view he had of the tackle saturday led to the sending off. Overall I still reckon he is just about the best ref in the country.

A referee's lot is not a happy one!

As a former referee (albeit Sunday League / Mini Minor / Women), I will admit that I NEVER refereed a game where I didn't make a mistake. Thankfully they were usually insignificant and didn't impact on a result.

Many decisions (even the correct ones) often met with the displeasure of players, officials and spectators and there were times when I took plenty of abuse. It goes with the job.

Referees at a "local" level are regularly abused, threatened and sometimes even assaulted; that's why there isn't a waiting list to become a ref!

You need a very thick skin sometimes to tolerate the abuse, and if you can't take some stick (even when it is totally undeserved), then you are probably in the wrong job.

It's not nice and it shouldn't happen but many of the issues I had when refereeing, particularly with the youngsters, arose because the kids saw players swearing and getting in the faces of top grade referees who did nothing about it....and thought they could do the same.

Whether Halsey had a good, bad or indifferent game is irrelevant really. Running to the OB because a moron or few have given you dogs abuse isn't really the answer is it?

There's a lot of heat refereeing the game at all levels and if you can't handle it, the kitchen door's that way>>>>>

Brilliant. Brilliant. Brilliant! A fantastic post and 100% this!
I'm 19 and have refereed adult leagues for a couple of seasons and you definitely need a thick skin to deal with what comes with the job.

To say refereeing is hard in games like what Mark Halsey had to deal with is a massive understatement. Not even the top refs could be prepared for a game like that, especially what has happened off the pitch for Liverpool!

I truly hope these disgusting football fans get what is coming to them. Mark Halsey refereed that game brilliantly and, in my honest opinion, got the key decisions spot-on and you definitely couldn't have asked for more!

I dont think ANYONE is saying he should escape any form of criticism due to his recent illness.

Evans is lunging and far wreckless but because he goes down like he has been shot the ref bottles it and gets the card out and the peno dont even get me started!

What are you talking about? He got them absolutely right - and the TV replays proved that. You're obviously a scouser / Liverpool fan in disguise.

Erm no just a football fan and my life you must be blind its a massive derby for crying out loud Evans goes down like hes been shot Red for the Liverpool lad.

The very fact there is such a debate going on about Evans/Shelvey makes me think it's not obvious either way so surely Halsey has just given what he has seen. Everyone is entitled to an opinion afterwards but to criticise Halsey for that is out of order IMHO.

What is far wreckless? I don't follow.

I don't know which pen incident you'd like to not discuss, but if you have a pair of eyes you'd see all three were called correctly. I genuinely don't even see what the argument is.

Being probably the biggest game of the premiership calendar though (as ferguson says) you would think he'd use his head rather than make a rash decision. It ruined a spectacle.
As you can see from the You're the ref. What's your decision? - Page 2 thread, only a quarter agree with him. If a red gets it wrong it ruins the game.

Evans lunging in 2 footed in a stamp down motion. Shelvey comes in with the side of his foot. Albumen has done a poll with agreat vid of the refs angle.watch it and come back to me.

true - but it only took a dodgy penalty for Liverpool to lose. Look at Mr Pawson's performance last season, that was probably the best game I went to last year.

All I'm saying is Halsey didn't do it on purpose and the decision was taken with no benefit of replay or hindsight.
