Marcos Painter wanted by Millwall

I cant get my head round anyone that thinks we WANT to slate our own players- Painter to Millwall will cause a reaction most of which agree he isnt actually good enough to play in the Championship. He cant run, has no right foot and is a joe average defender. I met a Birmingham fan recently who said the same thing. No doubt did a great job for us in the past but all the games i saw him in last season he got kippered! I dont want to pay to watch him play personally- Is this ok by the way or am i slagging off our own!!!??

its not odd he isnt at the level we need to be at to contend this season. Nobody is taking away what a great div 1 defender he is but maybe thats the whole point!

We read a lot on here about our players who "aren't Championship standard" yet most of them steered us to 10th spot last year. So they ARE Championship standard. Many of them had poor games at times but then so did our better players. We still came 10th.

Perhaps a better way of putting it would be "these aren't players capable of mounting a promotion challenge", because presumably we're now signing players with one eye on a first season in the Premiership.

Not quite right, a team can carry some passengers and yet end up mid-table. Painter was one of them. I liked his consistency in L1 but he is just too slow for the Championship and is therefore not imo a Championship player

A winger should always (75%) beat the oppposing full back. There is much more to be being a full back than stopping a winger. Alas, his distribution is no better than average.

But if the midfield did not keep losing the ball and putting him in trouble ...

I will give him a lift if he wants

I think thats harsh. Yes its probably best if he moves on but he has done a lot for this club and played a major if unsung role in us winning the league one Championship.

Far worse players have donned the stripes and his probably one of the best left backs we've had over the past twenty years.

I agree that Painter prob isn't up to championship football and didn't look great last season when he did play (tho i appreciate his injury problems). HOWEVER I'm amazed at some of the derogatary and lack of respect comments from people on here re him. Short memories. He was QUALITY in Lg 1 and a key part of our Championship winning team. He was without boubt the best left back in League 1 that year. It is odd how he seems out of his depth now.

SHOW SOME RESPECT THO PEOPLE

Absolutely right - pretty poor of people to lay in to him when he contributed hugely to us winning a Championship.

Good back-up, wouldn't want him as first choice if we pushing for promotion but he IS a champ player, just not a top champ player which is what we're after building a squad of STEADILY
