Marcos Painter wanted by Millwall

The Lions bid £300,000 for the Barnsley player (Jim McNulty) but were told to come back with a bid nearer the £1million mark, with the Tykes keen to keep hold of the player recently named Oakwell captain and who won the Player’s Player of the Year award in his first season in Yorkshire.

Reports coming out of south London suggest the New Den outfit have instead turned their attentions to Painter, who will likely be a fringe player at the Albion following the arrival of Wayne Bridge on loan.

Painter is the third left sided defender with Albion links to be targeted by Millwall, after the club tried to sign Joel Lynch in the close season.

Meopham, Kent.
I think that would be a good bit of business for us.

I like Marcos Painter. Good solid defender.

Not blessed with much pace though, and if he were to end up at Millwall, I'd look forward to watching Buckley run at him.

Hmm. Injuries and suspensions stack up. I don't think Painter is anything like as bad as some people on here would have us believe and I can see him making a contribution this year.

Also ... you need to think about why Man City have loaned Bridge to us when they're picking up most of his wages. Is it just a way of getting him in the shop window? Is it possible that come January, a Prem club will come in for him and the loan agreement will end? Not saying it will, but if it does, we may well rely on Painter to fill the gap.

Well if we hadn't told Vincelot he wasn't wanted I'd of said sell

However although Calde can play there we need more than one player to cover BOTH full back positions

I'd be ever so slightly concerned, but that would be a good bit of business. Concerned because I'm not convinced bridge will stay fit all season and our second LB could be used an awful lot. Calde I'm sure is up to that, let's just hope nothing happens to him.

I agree, he's slow but he's a full-back they don't need to be fast. He did alright at the beginning of last season and he's solid.

I'd be concerned with Wayne Bridge and his injuries, and whether we really want Calde playing at LB for any length of time.

If we kept Vincelot I wouldn't mind letting Painter go, because that'd give us Calde and Vincelot as back up for the position. However, with Vincelot seemingly on his way we only have one back up, and he's also the back up for our RB. Theoretically we could play El-Abd in cover at one of those positions, he seemed okish there last season, but that means brining Dunk into the starting side and he doesn't seem like a great choice right now.
