That is an incredible time. Well done! If only I could run so fast. Enjoy your break you've deserved it.

Will they be running this marathon again?

The organisers hope so - they want to do a track marathon every year. Last year's didn't happen because they couldn't find a venue, the year before they used grass 400m track at a school. Whether they use the velo track next year will probably depend on the grant application that has been made to relay the track which might mean it's unavailable. Details will be on their website - Sussex Trail Events. They do a small number of local races, really well organised, small fields and all very friendly - smashing group of blokes that do the work, all runners themselves. Highly recommend their events - in 2016 they are adding another to their 'river' series making 4 marathons, with all the medals interlocking to form one big one - looks great !

Races are the Darkstar (28m up and down the Adur in January), the Arun River run (Littlehampton Marina to Kithurst hill on the SDW and back), the Lunar-Tic in July (Shoreham Tollbridge to Bramber x 3 loops, starts at 8pm so mostly in the dark, brilliant fun) and there is a new one called 'mouth to mouth' which will be Shoreham to Littlehampton and taking in both rivers some of the SDW.

Thanks for the heads up. I have entered the Arun river run next year. Would like to do more races, but restricted to only 7 marathons in 2016, my lowest number for years. All because #100 is in spring 2017

Marathon 91 ran on Wednesday - strange day for one in Kent. Probably the flattest one done. 4 laps out & back along the Whitstable coast. A good time wasn't going to happen as very windy. Just over 100 runners. Next one in Deal, Sunday week then a rest ...

Saxon Shore job presumably.....TW emailed me last night with a place for Sunday at Deal (I was on the waitlist) but my calf isn't up to it unfortunately. I've entered the one at Dymchurch in January

I ran my very first marathon at the weekend, Florence, on Sunday, and managed to sneak in at 3.59.02. Very pleased, great course, and rather stiff and sore back at my desk today! I've got a long way to go to catch some of you marathon veterans!

Great first performance (doubt I am the only one to have royally messed up my fist, and several since).........doesn't sound like your last either

Unfortunately it was a DNF in the Athens Marathon for me.

I picked up (what I thought was) a small injury to my left knee on my last long run around 2 weeks before the marathon and felt some pain in the days after. Gave it some rest and hoped it would be OK. Got to 27 km on the day but I was getting slower and slower and my knee was getting more and more painful so stopped. Saw a specialist in Greece and have had an MRI back home; turns out I have torn my medial meniscus (and made it worse by running the marathon anyway). I'll be out for a while I expect. Pretty gutting as I'd trained a lot harder for this one than my previous one and really thought I could beat my previous 3:47 (even though the course was a lot harder).

Outstanding effort! I found that I was far less sore after the second marathon, the monday after Brighton this year was an absolute write off. I walked like a crab around the office on the few occasions I left my desk!

Really gutted for you Rodney (footballing legend - shortest man EVER sent off for throwing a headbutt?!), I can't imagine the frustration at training hard for a marathon, especially a marathon abroad, only to suffer an injury. Good luck with the recovery.

Official time is 4:02:58, it was a massive collapse from the 18 mile point, I was well on course for 3:30 at that stage, maybe even later. But my left calf started wobbling at mile 22 and then my right hamstring fell apart at mile 25. Strava has recorded the event as 27.1 miles, which is ridiculous but it wouldn't surprise me if it was further than 26.2 miles, mile 12 to 13 was incredibly long and it felt like it would be because the track was too narrow for a turn, so when it opened up even a little bit, that was considered the 13 mile point. I suspect they mapped it out a bit loosely.

On to Brighton 2016 for me!

Mile 12-13 sounds like mudflats below high tide level where you may get bogged down if you leave the path? Like my lost shoe half marathon course there or was it good ground all along?
Great effort doing a marathon in Christmas week. Well done.

Brilliant effort. Done this marathon a few times. Although it's flat it's also hard!
Great time & well done in bringing the baton home for 2015 on behalf of all the NSC marathon runners.
Have a feast over the holiday period. Worry about Brighton in January :)

You got bogged down on the path as well! It was a muddy mess, there were torrential downpours at times and it caused a lot of problems. There were pubble sections, beach sections, grass, mud and some hard surface running as well - it was a tough course altogether but it was well marshalled and managed. The exact distance of it is questionable though.

Very tough indeed! It's a pleasure to be the final marathon of the year, roll in 2016!

Wow! What a lot of Marathon miles we have ran this year. I suspect BHA have the fittest or craziest running fans in the country!

So with 2015, drawing to a close, put those feet up (as if ), have a glass of wine or two & put a few extra pounds on, as the New Year - is of course the start of the training season for most, for that spring time marathon.

MASSIVE Brighton NSC turn-out looming in April. Will at least need a pre-race picture (and possibly a post race beer) ?
