The grauniad quoted an unnamed premier league club's chief exec yesterday saying that there was a growing expectation that the season would be suspended.

Someone else on one of these threads suggested not relegating anyone, but promoting Leeds and WBA, just having a slightly larger PL next year. ...

not going to happen, EPL rules state 20 teams, dilution of revenue, additional fixtures in squeeze in. most likely, practical outcome is to suspend leagues and leave them as they are.

Play all remaining games in New Zealand only 6 cases down here, no deaths. My place goes on Air BnB for Albion fans only:D

All remaining fixtures to be settled at a mass penalty shoot-out competition. All players must wear hazmat suits.

Maybe, but these are extraordinary times.. It'll be as you say versus minimising outcry and litigation from those who are missing out. I'll concede your scenario is probably the more likely, though.

Current PL standings final?:D

There would be legal challenges and rightly so. Aston Villa would have the strongest case as they have a game in hand.
No one is mathematically relegated or promoted yet.

Chalk off the season, and start it again in September.

Am I missing something? If the Arsenal players have been in 14 day self isolation and this supposedly ends on Friday, why wasn’t their game against West Ham called off previously? And the game before that?

They didn’t know they’d had contact with someone with Coronavirus until now. The contact was almost two weeks ago, so if they haven’t shown any symptoms by Friday then they’re fine. I think.

Just re-read the BBC article and you are correct the 14 days from contact are up this Friday but he’s only just announced he’s got the virus so they’ve only just gone into isolation. Didn’t realise the guy in question is also the Forest owner.

Finish the season on 29 games, perhaps do the City/Arsenal and Villa/Sheffield United games when it's safe to do so as it may have an effect on European places for next season.

No promotion/relegation, no titles. No team has completed the season so it's not fair for those things to go ahead. That'll keep the most clubs happy I think, rather than final placings standing and moving divisions on less than a seasons worth of games.

I suppose we'd have to let Liverpool have their champions trophy. It'll be impossible to please everyone, someone's going to lose out and not be happy, let's hope people can just be philosophical about it and take any disappointment on the chin.

Then the league still have the problem of those teams in the play offs who quite rightly would also feel aggrieved that a big opportunity for promotion has been denied.

In Italy they are saying Serie A will probably not be completed, even in empty stadiums, and are discussing whether the current positions should stand or have just a few play off games to decide promotion/ relegation. If current positions are to stand, teams will have to have completed the same number of games. At the moment, Villa have a game in hand so could still save themselves, but I don't imagine any such decision would be made for a few weeks.
No, more likely just make the season null and void, prize money allocations made on an equal basis or carried over to next year..... no promotion, relegation, or titles...... ha, that will scupper Dirty Leeds.

I’m not sure why anyone thinks this will all have blown over by next season.

Doesn’t bear thinking about. Nightmare scenario, and I’m not taking about something as unimportant as football.

FWIW, I think it will be over, just a question of how many die and how many fall into dire financial straits.
