I really don't understand this massive brand loyalty thing with Apple. Yes they make some good products but so do other manufacturers. I would never buy something 'just because Apple/Samsung/whoever made it'.

I may try to start a similar trend with vacuum cleaners, it makes about as much sense. Go Hoover!!

I'm inclined to agree. My Macbook is unspeakably cool, despite its age.
However, looking ahead there is a concern that the cool factor, as well as Apple's reputation for innovation, is waning. They're still cleaning up in terms of sales, but are they creating the groundbreaking devices they once were?

I thought you were talking about me.

Fair point. At the moment it's smaller, faster, lighter as opposed to big bang product...if you get my drift. It's difficult to see where the next innovative product will come from but I put my money on Apple finding it.

Hoover are so awesome they've become the very verb for their purpose as well as a noun.

It's the same with Google. You don't "search the web" anymore, you Google.

I don't know of anything you "Apple"

It's NSC's classic anti-Apple one-two.

The semi-literate rantings of Albion Dan. From the poor language, typos and spelling errors - it's clear he bangs out his missives in a state of gradually building rage. He'll deny it of course, but it's a pattern that has continued for some time. Bless.

Ahh the classic dont really have a response so will target spelling and grammar trick. The reality is that I just understand this stuff as it's what I do for a living. The grammar and spelling are down to touchtyping at work and not copy-reading whilst doing other things. Sorry to let you down. At least you tried to dismiss my reasoned and logical arguments on typos this time, last time you didnt like what I was saying I think you resorted to calling me a troll.

Wash your mouth out! Everyone knows Dyson have been stealing Hoover's ideas for years. Hoover have a bigger market share, better after sale care and look much cooler!

Is this true. My DC02 broke down a few years back and they charged me £70 and a guy came around for an hour and completely overhauled my machine with all sorts of new parts above and beyond the issue. It is still going strong. My personal experience of Dyson is very very high.

1)...Android is the dominant player in smartphones...... is that not because unlike Apple, the average android user has freedom of app. choice , 2).. Motorola (wholly owned by Google) are trying to stop Apple selling any device at all in the United States..... whats good for the goose....

No, I was just applying the same sort of things Apple fan boys say, to the vacuum cleaner analogy to try and make out how ridiculous the whole thing seems to me. I'm sure Dyson's after sales service is fantastic!

But have you ever 'Dyson-ed your carpet'? That's the real question here...

I do own a Dyson but I do not like it. I refuse to call it by it's name and still say "I'm gonna run the hoover round". The dyson is too sucky and attaches to curtains, rug tassles, cables, its a f***ing sweaty, clammy, exhausting job Dyson'ing the lounge.

(And with that I'm out of this and off to PC World to see if they have a Chromebook to play with)

and lets be fair about Google's Chromebook, its not supposed to be a MacAir or any thing else competitor. its a new direction, its about a basic functional peice of hardware to drive the main application people use - a browser. i think it would take off if there were all those pesky tablets in a similar price range. the idea has been around since the late 90's though, the browser is the OS, you dont need anything else as you can run adhoc apps within the browser engine.

And then...the dot dot dot jottings of he who inhabits the same Somerset village as me....He'll talk about bully boy tactics yet always completely ignores that Android is the dominant player in smartphones, and that Motorola (wholly owned by Google) are trying to stop Apple selling any device at all in the United States...is that not bullying...?

The thing for me here is consumer choice...with the launch of Windows 8 we will have 3 great choices for tablets.
Competition creates innovation, new devices, new software, new use case and lowers the price making the tech more accessible to everyone.
Apparently, Windows 8 is shite according to the reviews. This will surprise nobody.

I wouldn't say that Windows getting to its dominant position was a complete mystery, but for such a dominant piece of kit, it's shite.
