As far as can tell, Professor Phillip Thomas (of Bristol University) did an impact assessment of lockdown and it said that it would cause 90% more deaths in the long run than if we didn’t have a lockdown. Maybe Maajid Nawaz has got that wrong?

Let's face it, we have different ambitions. You want to ensure that no-one ever dies of coronavirus, and I want to live life as I believe it is intended to be lived. The two are not compatible. I have maintained good discipline so far but I do not intend to maintain "good discipline" if and when the population has been vaccinated and the virus offers no more threat than tuberculosis or flu. Your idea of wiping out the virus by isolation will not work.

I wonder why he/she didn’t worry about coronavirus before last year considering it’s 13% of all flu viruses every year.

Every time I see the news say ‘So and so has tested positive for coronavirus’ it’s like...yeah, that happens every year.

People surveyed between January 7 and 10 also said they were less happy, less satisfied with their lives overall and were less likely to feel things they are doing are worthwhile.

Mental health must be a ticking timebomb. As soon as the vulnerable and over 60s are vaccinated we need to open everything back up.

0% of flu is from coronavirus, they are 100% influenza virus. about 15% of colds are from coronaviruses.

With due respect you're not bring nagged at by me, I'm just demonstrating an opinion on the forum of the club I support. Perhaps you should take some time off this board if you don't like my opinion.

The end game is relatively close. If we can maintain good discipline with the lockdown and restrictions for the next 6-9 months we could be living a near normal going into 2022 (we may never go back to 2019 normal). Let's not blow it now.

Your posts do come across as a bit nagging, sometimes almost verging on paranoia, to me to be honest, just relentlessly calling for a harsher lockdown and shooting down anything and anyone who puts forward a contrary view. It’s a forum though, so you’re perfectly entitled to carry on, same as anyone else.

I feel sympathy because it’s the pure fear and lack of understanding that has done this to people.

This is a concern. Each additional lockdown further legitimises it as an acceptable tool of public policy. We are governed by diktat, Parliament is emasculated.

Vaccines have offered a way out of this current shitshow, thank goodness. Good job because it's clear there's no other strategy. But suppose these were not available for another two years. Could we keep, would people even accept, these restrictions for that long? Would it even be affordable?

And next time 'Killer Flu' approaches the UK, we know the headlines are inevitable, the fear porn addicted media will ramp up the narrative for a lockdown. The future is not bright. It's masked and avoids others.

Some good news with cases plateauing. Hospitalisations expected to peak in 10 days subject to lockdown continuing we can begin to see a very slow decrease. Hopefully by Spring we can begin to emerge into a tougher tiered system over the summer.

No, you have got it wrong, Professor Thomas indicated that during times of hardship, like the austerity measures caused by the banking collapse and the recession and further likely cuts caused by Covid, that the average life expectancy is reduced.

His claim is that on average this could cause a 2 month reduction in life expectancy across the country, which when multiplied across the population equates to 500,000 “lives lost”.

He did NOT say 500,000 people will die because of lockdown!

Dom Raab saying this morning that the government will consider lifting lockdown by March and it will be a slow phased return to a toughened up tier system. Personally I have my doubts about the tier system, people's discipline seems to go when they know there are other people with looser restrictions. I expect by April we may be able to reopen non essential shops and possibly allow rule of 6 gatherings outdoors.

As a morbidly obese middle aged man with both parents still alive I have plenty to fear about this horrendous virus. I think lots need to take it more seriously and understand the reduction in people's civil liberties is temporary and done to protect the NHS and the population as a whole.

It will be a very gradual receding of the tiers , Raab said that this morning,very much dependent on the success of the vaccination programme reducing pressure on the NHS. The tier system will likely be toughened up too from the way it was in December. Schools to open first, and then a break to see the effects of that, and then nkn essential retail, followed by limited outdoor contact within the rule of six and then possibly hospitality with distancing and food with drinking restrictions.
