Then by all means find yourself a nuclear bunker and stay there for the rest of your (hopefully long) life. I have no objection at all to that. It's not a life I would choose, but it's a free country. (Or at least, it was once, and I hope it will be again.)

I have no intention of upping sticks and moving to a nuclear bunker for the rest of my life.
Im not convinced that scenario is a rational thought process at all.

People will ignore the rules unfortunately which is why we'll see a big spike in cases in the New Year on already huge numbers daily and the NHS being at risk at being overwhelmed. A long strict lockdown is the only thing which can and will follow.

I for one will ignore the rules because they don't apply to me.

There you go. I'm in my household of 4 and won't be seeing any outside of that beyond shopping where I avoid people at all costs even in normal times. Sick to death of holier than thou people telling me what I can and can't do. I am more than capable of applying common sense to my daily life and interactions

Sounds to me like you're very much sticking to the rules which I commend you for, so what's the problem?

I agree......but I don’t need to be told what to do by Sage or Boris, it’s pretty simple........or not, apparently.

We’re going to have full lockdown for 2-3 months I reckon. Still, as long as everyone enjoyed Christmas Day with their extended families eh ?

Looks like we're finally following the science again. I'd say lockdown until end March minimum, probably end of April given furlough extended until then. Followed by a very gentle and slow easing of restrictions over late Spring/early Summer if we don't see an increase.

-Some (current) Tier 3 areas going to new Tier 4 (sounds like close to full lockdown) - London and South East. Effective tomorrow morning.

-new advice on travel - stay local and follow rules in your tier.

-Christmas. Tier 4 - can’t mix outside own household other than support bubbles

-3 household rule elsewhere only applies to Christmas Day now, not the 5 days as originally intended

Yep......probably more active Tier reviews on an ongoing basis. Absolute key is the approval and rollout of the Oxford vaccine - absolutely everything needs to be thrown at that once approved to get through the vulnerable as soon as possible.

Just a bee in my bonnet about my kids coming home from school in tears as teachers and friends have pushed the Christmas is cancelled mantra so much and as a result the phrase Christmas is cancelled really bugs me

I bet the anti lockdown brigade feel a bit foolish now

and i suppose the lockdown brigade really chuffed they got their way. well done them.

trouble is no one wins. a lot of people are going to be very alone this Christmas, by virtue of the postcode they live in.

Yep, most on here wanted some sort of shielding/restrictions.

No one wanted a complete free for all

No one benefits from this

More job loses/more deaths at home alone/more missed treatments.

If nothing else Boris Johnson has brought together the pro and anti lockdown contingents together in thinking he doesn't know what he is doing.

That’s been the same since March, especially on NSC.

Covid deniers and covidiots hate the government and scientists for telling them to do anything. For closing pubs, masks, you name it.

Whilst Remoaners and Corbynistas will always be bitter about the last GE result, so CV19 is their gotcha moment.
