I don’t like the talk of another lockdown due to the impacts of shutting schools and all physical exercise facilities.

If it’s heading that way- possibly they could try to see it off by everyone going to Tier 3 now. And maybe closing non-essential retail in Tier 3.

Personally I would rather those things were shut now, than Kew them open for longer and then have to go into full lockdown.

Hopefully whatever measures we go to in the new year, we will slowly climb out of them as the vaccine is dished out- if the delivery of it is going to be ramped up to millions per week as per today’s news. Rather than bouncing up and down restrictions like we have been for the last few months.

But it makes life unbearable, especially for the old. This was my mother's social calendar before social distancing:

Tuesday - lunch with friends
Wednesday - knitting club
Thursday - lunch with friends
Friday - whist and Rummikub
Saturday - coffee morning
Sunday - church
Monday - day off.

With social distancing, none of that is possible. Even if they let you sit in a large well ventilated room together, at 6 feet apart conversation is impossible. A life lived where the only thing to look forward to is the next breath, soon becomes a life where you don't actually want the next breath. If all practical social interaction is stopped, there is for many people no point carrying on.

Agree with all your sentiments over the last day or so.

I find it astounding that they haven't put all the areas where cases are rising in tier 3 ahead of Christmas, regardless of the new strain.

That might be a good idea, but maybe a bit OTT?

What would what would ideally be better is that if something did happen in the future, people took things a bit more seriously and weren't such arrogant *****? ???

We should never have come out of the last lockdown. Hopefully there will be a much more stringent, strictly enforced lockdown immediately after the Winter Holidays.

Just cancel xmas if you want to, stop making up excuses to make it look like its not you doing it.

London and the South East could be 'cut off' from the rest of the UK with potential travel bans as a new 'highly contagious' coronavirus variant rips through the region.

Boris Johnson could announce a strengthening of Covid-19 advice as soon as today after holding a meeting in which ministers are understood to have discussed how to contain the mutant strain.

Everything we've learned so far about this virus has been bad news. Got a terrible feeling this new variant is going to be the same. Obviously most virus mutations make them less harmful etc. But you can bet your money that this time round, it'll be the opposite and that the vaccines won't work on it either. Bound to happen.

A new variant of the virus just in time for the announcement of the inevitable new year/Boxing Day lockdown, how people still believe anything this government say I will never know, we’ve all known a new lockdown was coming for weeks now :lolol:

Even though scientists have made it clear there is no evidence it’s more deadly and no factual evidence it’s spreads quicker, oh and hospitals are quieter than last year

BTW I’m not a member of the tin foil hat brigade, but I’m sick to death of the lies now. I’ve had enough.

Boris talking to the nation again tonigh, seems much harsher restrictions on the way, not before time. Need to get back to protecting lives and protecting the NHS, Christmas can wait for this year.

This. I can’t get my head around why people are looking to work ‘just’ within (at best) what’s allowed (and then the same people having massive family gatherings will blame the government for ‘letting us mix’ of course). Why take the risk ? We all know what spreads it, so ****ing stop doing it. Keep risks to a minimum.

The Government are just trying to save face now, I think Italy/Spain/France/Germany have now cancelled it?

They don't want to be the odd man out now, they also don't want to be seen as cancelling it.

I don't know how anyone believes anything they/certain parts of sage say anymore.

The Govt Covid stats, when you analyse them, indicate an increase in the PERCENTAGE of people hospitalised after testing positive

Those who say they don’t believe any of it, just need to look at the way the publishing of the data has been consistently cocked up

If ‘they’, we’re trying to produce false data, ‘they’ wouldn’t keep cocking up how and when they publish it
Missing test numbers, backdated changes to data sets etc etc - indicates a really pretty useless bunch of data analysts and management, not a deep state

Cock up or conspiracy?

100% cock up

Many people will ignore any rules.

I’ll be visiting family in the Midlands. We’ve evaluated the risk and taken the necessary precuations (no contact with anyone outside bubble for the last 6 weeks).

People will ignore the rules unfortunately which is why we'll see a big spike in cases in the New Year on already huge numbers daily and the NHS being at risk at being overwhelmed. A long strict lockdown is the only thing which can and will follow.

I agree......but I don’t need to be told what to do by Sage or Boris, it’s pretty simple........or not, apparently.

We’re going to have full lockdown for 2-3 months I reckon. Still, as long as everyone enjoyed Christmas Day with their extended families eh ?

I am sure a strict lockdown is coming after Christmas.

If you are able to stay at home over Christmas, do so.

If you live alone and feel you can safely spend Christmas with others, then that is a decision individuals will have to make.

This
Xmas has already been knocked on the head amongst the Pastas. Dont need to wait for Boris or sage for instructions or tier advice on this.
Most of my friends have already cancelled wider family get togethers as well and just opting for xmas with the existing household
