The first part of your post perhaps has a point. But the last is simply stupid. How can anyone know whether there will be a cure for covid 19 or not? It is not unlikely that there will be a vaccine and an effective treatment.

A coronavirus group vaccine has never worked, ever, there still isn’t a SARS vaccine 18 years on. Granted nowhere near the amount of resources has ever gone into trying to find a vaccine as near to what is being put towards attempting to find one now but realistically if a vaccine or drug treatment isn’t found in the next 6 months, Australia and New Zealand’s approach will be a catastrophe.

All ifs and buts at this point mind you, there’s so many questions and not many answers.

His view was that this is like a flu and different strains will mutate. Even Dr Fauci said yesterday may never be a cure.

Correct, we've not got a clue.

I can't see why we've even had a lockdown at all. Now that we've eased restictions without a plan, we will be in the same position in 2 weeks time, that we were in at the end of March. What was the point in the first semi lockdown, if we are just going to waste the progress it made by easing too early and without a proper plan in place? Madness!

Judging by reports out today it may appear the government have it spot on now? Could of had a third of population been infected and therefore herd immunity is well on track!.

The comment you posted expressed an absolute which is contestable. Of course there may never be a cure (don't know whether you mean vaccine or treatment as 'cure' is unclear to me). But there is hope as this virus mutates less than many of its brethren which is a positive.

not bloody likely mate ... I would say that 20% of the population don't buy this bullshit , NZ have just changed their constitution so that police can enter houses to remove people without a warrant if they think that there may be a risk of harm ........this shit is going to get real mate , plenty of people with guns in the community..( I haven't got one ) ...Australias government is overtly corrupt , it has sold out to China & America....we have around 40% foreign ownership of land and property 22% US 18 % China ,US ownership is on a massive surge , a ridiculous situation and the public are slowly waking up ......this is all about control , exercising and practicing control of the community,.....in my opinion anyway ....wait and see where we end up in 6 months , won't be pretty unless we push back.

There’s a lot of dead people for a hoax? Where are you getting your “information” from?

For the second time today I was duped by a question/comment on R5 (about the need for parents to know quickly when universities will be open for teaching). I doubt that many students have booked their accomodation for October yet. Few year 1 entrants will yet know for sure where they will even be going because A level results won't be out till July at the earliest. Government spokesman doing a good job of saying 'I don't know' when he doesn't know. Is that Grant Schapps? Crikey.

There are so many people with mental health issues over this, so let’s interview someone who says lockdowns are here for 3 years.

As you say today we had antibody tests announced wonderful news. Let’s stick to that for a day

Like those of you above, I was quick to write this lady off as just another doom mongering, end of days nut job, peddling fear for her 5 minutes of fame. However, it seems she’s actually pretty well qualified...

If she’s right and we end up doing that we may as well all give up lol

Economies will be a thing of the past, look where we are at after 6 weeks or so.

Thankfully I don’t think leaders will do it

I did the same thing, she does seem well qualified but it's taken 25 years since her first book for her to be right.
It's no different to Liverpool fans saying they're going to win the league every season, they were bound to do it eventually.

In all seriousness, people like this need to be held to account too. Public enquiries should either focus on the scientists or whoever who make these ridiculous predictions/statements OR go after the "media" who make them public. It's shameful to try and scare people into paying attention to these things. This person is a total outlier in this doomsday scenario and should be ignored, but you know that they won't be. And there will be people who get on their high horse at people out for a walk because some fool believes that we have a minimum of 36 months of loneliness ahead of us.

Words matter.

Lucky we had the last few years of austerity then, because if we hadn’t we’d already be bankrupt!

So lucky that we ran down the NHS to impose austerity. The same austerity that was launched by Osborne in 2010, who informed us that it would eradicate the deficit in the lifetime of the parliament. You do realise that the UK was still running a deficit when we were hit by Covid-19.
You have zero understanding of economics, but are very good at parroting drivel that's been planted in your mind.

I was speaking to a work colleague today as we are on furlough and after speaking to my boss who simply isn't going to reopen until it's profitable to do so for him, she said to me she is quite happy to take her chances of getting the virus if it means having her full wage again. To be honest I can't say I agree with her or not.

“I’ve been assured there’s no problem,” the bureaucrat says.

“I’m telling you that there is,” Khomyuk replies.

“I prefer my opinion to yours,” he says.

“I’m a nuclear physicist,” she counters, adding, “Before you were deputy secretary, you worked in a shoe factory.”

I'm loving the quotes from the script that can be applied to Covid-19.

The lockdown was based on science (500,000 deaths if left unchecked) and yet the latest science that is coming out indicates that the virus is less of an issue than was considered 2/3 months ago.

On that basis, the science would be say that the lockdown can be eased quicker than it currently is planned, so why not do it, if that’s wheat the science is indicating and policy is informed by the science?

I get that there has to be some caution, as a second wave would be disastrous, but at the same time the science has to be followed, and if the science doesn’t suggest a second wave then the easing of the lockdown should be accelerated IMO.

Is it because the Government don’t want to risk a second wave because of the ramifications of that, despite what the science suggests, or is the science still essentially the same as it was 2/3 months ago?
