We should do what Oz and NZ have done .... anyone coming in 14 days quarantine. Until that happens we never get rid of it. A small but significant move imo

Haven't looked at the detail behind the estimates (probably impenetrable anyway) but very few people get to the point of needing a ventilator anyway so its absence and/or lack of general healthcare is probably not a big factor in its mortality rate.

What's probably a bigger factor is the mortality rate of people without covid19 who can't get care because the system is overwhelmed.

Good point...was chatting about this yesterday. Loads of people not going to hospital now because they are either naturally too scared, or don’t want to burden the system. As well as a lot of unnecessary deaths there will be a lot of very sick (non Covid) people going into hospital when this eases.........

Not going to be easy with that Irish border. Australia and New Zealand are distant from everywhere else enough that people can't easily get in a dingy and cross the sea to them.

And I think our government feel that full isolation with cause major damage to the economy. My guess is that we will relax lockdown and then get increasing cases in the major cities, then put the lockdown back - and only the consider trying to prevent people coming in. It might even take twice for this until the government get the message.

Agree it would be a lot less effective a second time around, with more unrest.

If it means we end up staying in this initial lockdown an extra 1-2 weeks more than we really "needed" to in hindsight, so be it. It's worth it.

Not that it makes her death "okay" of course, but she was elderly and had been in hospital a number of times over the past few months with various other issues. So whilst it is obviously very sad, at least it did not come as a complete shock. She was able to say her goodbyes, thankfully.

Lot of cancer deaths too, because of out-patient appointments cancelled and patients subsequently only being diagnosed three months too late.

I really don't get why we can't follow the example of Oz, NZ, S Korea and others and I'm not sure there is a major economic impact by doing so. These are generally citizens returning from wherever they are. Although 14 days cooped up in a hotel room is pretty unpleasant people do have a choice.

I don't have a lot of sympathy for those left overseas ... they have had plenty of time to get back, indeed I'm sure many left whilst this was going on (there will be exceptions to that of course)

This sunny, warm week in Sweden is going to turn into a complete slaugther in a few weeks.. One thing that people seem to be ignoring is that Italy is NOT a "first world country" by anything other than name. It's a gangster run group of areas and it has ZERO cohesion when it comes to government, education, law, tax and certainly healthcare.

Basically it's a bit like America but with no money.
