Plenty of reasons but I'd guessmainly this:
Imagine they just reveal the death numbers and journalists ask "from how many cases?" and BJ or someone reply "I dunno". People need to hear and see in numbers that the vast majority survive and will live happily to see Brighton win the PL, Its sort of like when you build or manage prisons: if no one ever escape and there is no possibility of escaping yourself, lots of long-term convicts would either kill themselves or others or start rioting etc.
The numbers are frightening but also comforting.

We are where we are. Whether you think Covid is going to kill 10’s of 1000’s or the panic is going to kill 10’s of 1000’s. Bottom line is that the end result is the same. The only people that can really make a difference will be the NHS staff, food supply chain staff, researchers etc. These people need all the support possible from us and government.
Testing needs to be first and foremost for these people. A doctor self isolating for no reason is a waste of precious talent. A doctor unaware of his condition, is coming into contact with those who need their help most.
How our local MP, the health minister, a premier league manager, Idris Elba etc happen to be found as one of the 2000+ cases out of 65m people, smacks of privellaged testing. Should be testing those on the front line.

Word. All these tested ****ing footballers, presumably in the lowest risk category on the planet - "healthy athlete". Was very happy to read that the Real Valladolid players said "no, others need these tests more".
They were saying that at lunch time today, saying it would be announced at 5pm today. It was bullsh*t. Add them all to your list of bullsh*ters.

In fairness its quite a sensible idea to have a chest freezer somewhere if you are lucky to have somewhere to put it. Quite often bulk buy meat to freeze when on offer at the supermarket, big batch cook some dishes and freeze them, and spare bags of ice in the summer for my gin. Kitchen fridge freezer just not enough space.Pays for itself after not too long if you shop sensibly

Wrong on so many levels.
Going to explain why ?
The media has whipped everyone up .
People don’t act like this over normal flu which kills so many more and is very dangerous for those with health issues ( which I believe pretty much all deaths have been )
9,000 is tragic but in scheme of things compared to other things need some perspective here .
Death rates low and even lower when consider those figures often don’t take into account the true numbers that have this form of flu
Be careful but people really need to calm down a bit .
The end of the world isn’t coming
If your parents are healthy then stop panicking , they will be fine
As with any bad strain of something if someone’s vulnerable then use common sense.

Of course:
1. Flu does not kill 260 to 600 MILLION
2. Looking at total deaths is simply misleading people as the first person to be infected with covid-19 was though to be end of 2019.
3. Covid-19 has a far more deadly case mortality rate
4. Covid-19 has the potential, right now, to overwhelm health services world wide. Meaning car accidents or complicated pregnancies (for example) might not recive the treatment they require due to this pandemic and thus cause more deaths.
All this has been explained before.
Conversely in the last few years a wider choice of gluten free goods have been available to people who genuinely need them, driven by faddy dieters and I'm sure it makes my tummy feel uncomfortable hypochondriacs.
I am getting low on long grain rice. I usually buy a 10Kg sack, which lasts about 6 months. If i get one now, if I can find one, it will look like I am hoarding the stuff. This stuff has to settle down soon. People aren't suddenly going to start over eating, at least not staples.

290,000 to 650,000.
Not the vastly inflated figures you quote.
The deadly Spanish Flu took 50 million victims. Nowhere near 600 million per year.
