All senior managers have been asked to produce a BCP plan in 24 hours at my place but apparently it's NOTHING to do with Coronavirus ..... no siree ...... he says working from home !!!!

Coincidence.

HR in my place is drawing up the contingency plan for office shutdown that apparently they should have done as routine anyway in January as part of some compliance requirement, and was running late.

I wonder what has given them the impetus now, after they had let it drift ? ???

Weird how these are always from a second hand source and not the expert themselves?

Weird how there are no sources on the ground in Italy questioning it?

When you actually get to the source, an expert in the field, the advice is usually the same “yes it is coming, we are preparing, remain calm. The virus itself isn’t actually that bad”.

Try not to listen to people on twitter claiming nobody is listening and we are all doomed, we must lock Britain down now!

Scientists warn of the dangers of a virus that will come and go;
The entire world goes batshit and starts stockpiling and isolating, disrupting their daily lives and changing all their daily habits.

Scientists warn of possible full species extinction due to climate change and ask us to reduce our carbon footprint;
**** you, I’m not changing a damned thing, it’s all bullshit.

That is a bit scary. I know it's 'cool' to be unbothered by all this and as far as I know I'm in fine health, but it's my elderly parents I'm concerned about.

It’s certainly not ‘cool’ to be unbothered. I’m bothered but not to the levels that many on here are.
If you are in the ‘at risk’ group then you need to take precautions. As mention previously my mum had cancer and Parkinson’s (died 2018) and my father cancer, copd and dementia (died 2019). They both had flu jabs but were very wary regards using public transport large gathering etc during the winter because a bad cold could have put either of the in the ground. Cancer took my mum, pneumonia my father.

Italy appears to be a ‘perfect storm’. An ageing population, social norms regards the elderly meeting and socialising in large groups on a daily basis, extended families living together, holy communion ( personally I think this is a large factor) and the fact that the Italian authorities basically ignored the problem for about a month! All these will make transmission easier and will ultimately effect an ageing population hence the level of fatalities.

Likewise - both my parents are in their late 70's and my mum has a form of Parkinsons. My Dad is frail from looking after her. My brother has MS. It's all a worry about how they will deal with it even if I deliver goods to all of them ..... which is quite difficult to fit around work ..... and to get some goods thanks to stockpiling idiots !

No wonder your having trouble getting goods in if you've been stockpiling idiots

Perhaps some of the stockpiling idiots are getting stores in for elderly relatives themselves.

We're lucky as we still have most of our no-deal-Brexit supplies, but if I were you I'd get your folks plenty of stocks in now, and insist they go into their own lockdown for 2-3 months.

Better safe than sorry, eh ?

Any other situation I would agree, but this virus is serious if it gets out of control.

But to an extent, don’t you feel it’s still in our hands whether it gets out or control or not? If the infections get into the thousands in the UK, we go into social distancing and slowly choke the virus out.

So, for these reasons, we should believe every tweet from anyone who is completely unqualified but has been 'told by a friend who is qualified'

Which one is completely unqualified? The trained medic in London or the trained medic in Italy ?

https://www.brightonandhovealbion.com/news/1643040/coronavirus-update-ahead-of-arsenal

Last week we announced various measures the club has put in place for our staff and supporters to each play our part in preventing the spread of the Coronavirus.

We are continuing to closely monitor the situation with regard to Coronavirus, and as a result we are now introducing additional measures to continue to minimise risks to our club, players, staff and supporters.

For supporters planning on attending our match with Arsenal on Saturday, we will provide hand sanitisers where possible and antibacterial hand wash in all washrooms in the stadium, subject to the supplies available to us.

Supporters will also be permitted to bring travel-sized hand sanitisers into the stadium (up to 100ml) in a clear plastic container.

Supporters won’t be permitted to congregate in and around the players entrance and route to and from the stadium, in line with the guidance we issued to players not to pose for selfies or sign autographs.

We also ask all supporters to take personal responsibility for their hygiene, and importantly ask any supporter who has returned from one of the locations or is displaying symptoms that are consistent with the virus to ensure they familiarise themselves with the government’s advice on self-isolation.

We will continue to liaise closely with the relevant authorities and follow Government, NHS and Premier League advice, and with this in mind we have updated our guidance as follows, with new measures in bold.

— encouraging good hand hygiene, including regular washing with soap and water particularly when switching locations or travelling around

— when washing hands with soap and water isn’t possible, using hand sanitisers as an alternative

— encouraging cashless and contactless payments, where possible, across the stadium

— postponing pre-match mascots walking out with the team, and pre-match centre-circle sponsors photographs

— standing down Gully, Sally and Sammy mascots until further notice

— cancelling post-match man-of-the-match presentations in 1901 Club

— restricting direct physical contact, such as handshakes, hugging, high-fives, and so on

— ensuring good hygiene in and around office spaces, particularly areas such as desks, computers, kitchens, and so on

— restricting non-essential internal and external meetings at both our stadium and training ground

— encouraging as many meetings as possible to be conducted via Skype or conference calls to limit non-essential travel

— minimising risks from external visitors via a self-certification process, and holding essential meetings away from main office areas

— postponing all player appearances across both our men’s and women’s squads

— restricting all non-essential access to stadium and training ground areas regularly used by our various men’s and women’s playing squads

— restricting players posing for selfies and signing autographs pre-match and post-match at the stadium

We have also reminded all our staff that in order to minimise the risk (and while it’s not a guarantee) the onus is on all of us to ensure we implement these guidelines in our day-to-day lives, at work, home and school, to minimise the risk of the spread of the Coronavirus.

We would also ask our supporters to help us implement these measures — which we hope will only be for the short term – by cooperating with, and respecting, the temporary restrictions and more limited access to our property, players and staff we are implementing.

Common sense or ignorance? Chief medical officer defends U.K. strategy.

Particularly interested in this comment. More mixed messaging?

Dr Harries said cancelling big outdoor events like football matches would not necessarily be a decision supported by science.
"The virus will not survive very long outside," she said. "Many outdoor events, particularly, are relatively safe."

So - this week there is a schools dance performance on every day at The Dome. My daughter is in the one tomorrow. The Dome full up with kids from literally every school in the area, sneezing, picking things and licking each other. Indoors. Not called off.

Yet football matches, marathons etc in the balance.

Am I the only person who thinks this is strange?

Everything is in the balance. Just not yet. Give it a week or so and all of the above will be off.
