It was labour spin Doctor Jo Moore who came out with that one on 09/11.

So it was, as has been pointed out, it was some time ago and I thought it was a Tory minister.
School boy error on here not to check stuff before posting that was so far in the past.
However I fully expect other news to be buried but it won't be fully down to the government as the media will swamp us with this virus, people just need to know the facts on how to get tested, how to stay safe and how to self isolate, not 24/7 over the top news coverage and tabloid scaremongering.
I hope the media keep one eye on other just as important stuff going on.
At least I gave the anal retentives on here the opportunity to FFS.:ffsparr:

I went shopping tonight. Quite literally six packs of bog roll left in the aisle, with little in the way of tinned baked beans, tuna and soup left on the shelves.

It’s panic, it’s madness, it’s hysteria. And yet I do believe we may be about to enter a phase which is absolutely unprecedented in human history. Not in terms of death toll, the rapid transmission of information and medical sophistication will see to that.

But it’s those very things that are likely to lead us down the path of a social and economic stall; with life as we know it simply grinding to a halt for a period of weeks or months. Spanish flu apparently killed around 50 million people, and God forbid this virus will get absolutely nowhere near that. But in terms of planet-wide disruption to every day societal function this must be up there.

Schools closed. Businesses shut. Major events, such as the Olympics and the Euros almost certainly cancelled. Major cities in absolute lockdown.

This is a genuine question - have we EVER seen anything like it as a species?

Huh? So far they have put back the date of a James Bond film to protect profits. People are doing what they always do when the media go on a feeding frenzy; stock up on beans and bog roll.

Calm yourself.

The Olyimpic games this year in Tokyo has to be 50 50 at best. Personally I think it will be cancelled

The government here cares way too much about Japan inc to cancel the games, it's all about the $$$$s to them. Just remember there was a huge nuclear meltdown here, at that point Japan could've changed its direction and become a world leader in developing and promoting alternative energy sources but what did the government do? Yep they stayed in bed with nuclear power because of the $$$$s the nuclear authority provides them with and even, almost immediately, went around the world trying to sell nuclear technology to other countries!

I highly doubt the games will be cancelled, postponed hmmmm maybe. They shouldn't even have been arranged for July/August anyway because it's so hot here then, but yet again TV sponsorship $$$$s overruled the safety of athletes and attendees.

I am not worried about getting the virus and i'm sick of they way the global media are overplaying it and stoking panic buying etc. I am however a bit worried about my 4 year old as she's asthmatic. I'm pleased the government closed the schools early for spring break though, so at least my mrs can keep an eye on them a bit.

She just happened to have got busted.

Don't think for a second this current tory filth aren't considering the "upsides" of this current crisis, steering attention away from the floods, brexit negotiations, awkward questions on the PM's various illegitimate un-numbered brood, and any other number of shitstorms you'd care to mention that have melted away into the background over this.

Johnson can go and have a gentle "grilling" with Phil and Holly and blather/bluster his way out of whether there'll be any Heinz tomato soup and some catfood on the shelves at Co-op by the end of the month. Job done.
Still don't have the guts to release the report on Russian interference into the Brexit referendum though.

Or are they waiting for a really bad Corona Virus day ?

I don't disagree. It takes a special kind of person to think you can get another penny on income tax or whatever because the twin towers are crashing to the ground or half the population have copped a new disease. Domonic Cummings strikes me as the sort of bloke that would be as equally at home in a North Korean government and would happily advocate state murdering of anyone on benefits if he could.

We've had a lot of scares recently (Ebola, SARS etc) but I think that this is the real deal from what I've read and the poundland models I've done. The NHS could be bursting at the seams, a percentage of the eldery could die (think of the damage this could do in a nursing home) and questions will be asked that Boris won't be able to bat away on daytime TV. I hope I'm wrong but attitudes maybe completely different in a months time.

“So far” isn’t really the issue is it? At last count, 115 people have been confirmed having contracted Coronavirus in the UK. I hear you, out of a population of 65 million, that’s a tiny percentage. But we now have community transition, and without serious (maybe ‘draconian’ to quote BoJo) measures I’d expect that to double day-by-day.

On that basis, we’re looking at nearly 15,000 within a week, and almost 1.9m in two weeks. The reality is that probably won’t happen because we will as a nation take action. But that action will be economically suffocating.

Do you expect the Olympics to go ahead? Personally, I don’t. That’s only happened three times in history before - each during the world wars. If that doesn’t give you a sense of perspective as to what we may be facing here, I’m not sure what will.

I’m incredibly confident that covid-19 will not kill many Britons; we’ll manage it. But mark my words, life’s about to get very, very weird for a while. I’d love nothing more than to be completely and utterly wrong on that. Fingers crossed I’m a hand-wringing imbocele!

Not taking more drastic action sooner will be an easy one to pin on them. Likewise, lack of investment in the NHS. They have left a few open goals.

I'm concerned that the government is not announcing where new infections are occurring, this leaves a vacuum easily filled by social media.
I think it should be our right to be given accurate information on the spread rather than leaving us all in the dark to gossip and speculate.

Not sure that this is a good idea baring in mind what some of Portsmouth finest did a few years back. A couple of herberts beat up a guy because they thought he was a paedophile ... when in fact he was a paediatrician .....

Didn’t they u-turn on that plan yesterday, and will continue to release daily numbers on that instead of the weekly Friday totals they were moving to?

Oh really? - bats that you say aren't there anyway. Don't the genuine peace loving always truthful Cinese have a research lab in Wuhan? Sure I read it somewhere..

There is also a black market in China, selling used lab animals.

I wasn't aware of that happening yesterday.. Probably proving my point! If so that's good. I wouldn't demand exact figures from national or local government but it would be highly advantageous to us all to know when and where to self limit movement and increase hygiene as and when necessary.

Almost right. He was a she, and they daubed her house with paint rather than beating her up.
