They'll bat nearly the full 110 overs to avoid the risk of penalties I think...

So, perversely, Somerset were forced to bat when by doing so they relinquished whatever slim chance they had of winning the match, AND the crowd were denied another hours' cricket.

Seems harsh. The likelihood is Sussex would have batted out the remainder of the session but if they'd lost even four or five wickets then that might have affected the confidence of the batsmen going into the crucial last match against the Champions starting in only 5 days time. In golfing terms Somerset have conceded Sussex a 4-foot putt.

Five dismissals in Hants 1st inning, now a useful knock at the death. A truly Maradona-esque performance by the former wicketkeeper turned agent: "SUSSEX SAVED BY THE HAND OF HODD!"

Worse than that, they were forced to concede it!

Am I right in thinking 9 points against Yorkshire, no matter what Hampshire gets, (and assuming Durham win this afternoon) guarantees our safety?

Hope that extra point meaning we need more than bonus points, doesn't make any difference!

Phew. Turned out well. Hants have to win at Notts now to stand a chance. Without the forfeiture would probably still have a chance with a high scoring draw.
Still thin Yorks should have declined the offer, but they will say look at the result....

Yes, because level on points it's on games won, which would be 4 each if they win and we don't, then it's on games lost which we have already lost more. No small task Hampshire getting all bonus points and a win in Nottinghamshire though.
