Should've picked best available team then....
It's starting to feel like our best hope is for Yorks to now beat Hants. As unlikely as that seemed an hour or two ago, it's now not beyond the realms of possibility. It would be good if we could start to get some bloody Zummersat wickets ourselves, but that - in contrast - is looking less likely all the time.

I foresaw the forfeit on Monday afternoon, so before the end of Day 1. The significance of the ability to forfeit at this stage of the season cannot be over-estimated. If Hampshire stay up because of it the ECB will have a nightmare on their hands. They will secretly be praying Yorkshire knock off the runs so they avoid a sh1tstorm.
As mentioned earlier, Somerset have to carry on batting on order to go past our total and then some, so the possibility of having any chance of positive result is non-existent.
As if this situation wasn't bad enough, imagine if we project the position on to the final round of matches. Say Sussex and Somerset were in the pavilion rained off with a draw nailed on and Hants had to beat Yorkshire to survive the drop and thereby condemning one of the other two to relegation?
The simple answer is no forfeiture of innings in the final two rounds of matches by any side. Utter shambles, and I'd be saying the same thing if we were in Hampshire's position too.

I expect one of the Yorkshire cheats to kick his own wicket over in a minute, to make a game of it. 
As for Somerset, expect them declare the MINUTE they reach 400, and not bat on for another poxy ten runs, thereby depriving us the chance of more bowling points. i.e. expect them to do exactly what we should have done.

They're just picking us off. The batting points are largely safe for them, they've got loads of time to get to 400, and they're just ensuring they don't lose any more wickets. Vintage performance from Trescothick, what a player. We're going to drop behind Somerset in the table here, but fingers crossed at the Rose Bowl...

So when our 8th wicket went down on 359 we should have declared and not gone for the extra batting point, just because we might concede a bowling point!?

Ignore me. Got it wrong. I thought our 8th wicket went down on 391, not 359.

so, as long as Yorkshire carry on as they are, the lack of wickets falling at Hove isn't critical, BUT if Hants (as they inevitably will) start to work through the batting, THEN we're in deep sh*t
It is against the rules to declare with a clear intention of denying the opposition points. If we (Somerset) get to 400 then it would take justifying to declare. I suspect we would go to 450 or so and then do it saying going for miracle win. I reckon Somerset will get to 400 and declare. At that point they'll have maximum bonus points and they can't lose. They might as well then have a bowl and see what happens. If we're not mentally right and have already assumed it's going to be a draw then with our weak batting line up if they could get us 50-5 by, say 16.50hrs Somerset could pull of an unlikely win.
