I think that depends on what you mean by 'monocultural society'. All waves of immigrants have brought with them elements of their culture which have become 'British' - curry and reggae being two of my favourites. And despite our many and varied regional differences we all still call ourselves 'British', (or at the very least English, Scottish etc). The problem is that over the last 50 years a lot of the new arrivals have been actively encouraged not to think of themselves as 'British' because 'British' meant nasty white imperialists.

So yes, I personally would like to see a 'monocultural' British society. It would be colourful and it would acknowledge input from all over the world - but it would be comnposed of people who thought of themselves as 'British' and respected our laws and traditions.

Ok, I'll try. I too agree with MK seagull. I think that Luton is a nice neat example of the almost total failure of Britain's multi-cultural 'all cultures are of equal value and immigrants are always the victims' policies of the last 30 years.

That doesn't excuse the actions of the knuckle-draggers in the video though.

If you want to protest, do it properly. Organising 500 all-white youths (many of whom will be little more than common thugs) to "protest" on behalf of the country at large plays into the hands of these right-on do-gooders that bushy is referring to.

My view is that Luton is a total failure of multi-culturalism but is not a microcosm of the country at large. If a community is divided along racial lines and the power is perceived to be held by one community, that community is simply asking for trouble.

I don't disagree with that and I can totally sympathise.

However, is it not possible that this state of affairs has come about because of the Christian population's refusal to integrate, rather than the other way round? Maybe because the Muslim population has grown, so has the resent and therefore the power?

I'm not saying it's a good thing, but is it not a possible state of affairs?

Just for the record my Auntie was hounded out of her house in Harrow because she was the last white person living in the street and the perpetrators were Asian..so is that not racist ?.....she now lives in a much better place Brighton...

She was a very frightened 60yr old one then..she moved in with my Mum down here and left the place empty and boarded up until it was sold...The Police were as usual completely useless
