Well presumably he thought it would work.
I assume this was around the time Potter was appointed Swansea manager and people were generally complementary about the job he did there finishing 10th, so I'd guess Bielsa had a point about the squad being shit.

If that is the case (and I seriously doubt it), what makes them think the he would want to leave the stability of Brentform for a basket case like Everton?

It's the arrogance of once upon a time successful 'clubs like Everton'. If Potter was still here, they'd probably think they could get him. Like when Villa fans used to think they could easily get him.

Talk of Bielsa just shows what a basket case that club is. There is no plan in the boardroom, they just sway from finding that one manager doesn't work to appointing another completely different one that would want hugely different playing staff. In thier current situation Sean Dyche is the only option they should be chasing. They showed against City that they can work hard and defend. That's what they'll need to do if they are going to avoid relegation. Lampard knew that deep down, but wasn't courageous enough to stick with it from game to game because he shared the fanbase's big club mentality. When you're struggling, the expansive football goes out of the window. You get the points you need however you can. He was happy to do that against City away, but seemed to think it beneath them to try it against us at home.

Chris Hughton didn't care that we went to Wolves and never went over the halfway line. He got enough points to stop us going down, in whatever way necessary. It wasn't palatable and it didn't save his job, but it saved us. We wouldn't be where we are now if he hadn't done it. Bielsa would go purist expansive football whatever the consequences. Results wouldn't alter his course. They would probably then sack him and appoint someone totally unsuitable for a Championship promotion campaign.
