It is a shocking venue but some acts can pull it off. Saw Nick Cave there and Flaming lips and both managed to overcome the dreadful acoustics.

Motörhead managed to overcome the shocking acoustics as well.

Was anyone else at the Hookworms/Cold Pumas/Sealings show last night. Really good, Cold Pumas have been my favourite Brighton act for some time. Hookworms appear to me to be the most exciting young, potentially commercial British band out there at the moment, imagine if you will Kasabian's first album with the psych rock element turned up to 11 and the laddishness downed a notch. Their debut has been garnering impressive reviews & deservedly so. Certainly made Palma Violets look very foolish.

Who's doing Swans at the Concordetonight? It will be my 4th time seeing them since the reformation and I am very excited.

They're both ****ing amazing. Hookworms are mindblowing at times. I'd love to see Swans but after managing to double book Melanie C (for work, ahem) with the Cardiff game last year, I'm not doing any more gigs on football nights. You'll love it.

Bo Ningen were a bit of a let down, only on for 30 minutes.

Short but very sweet I thought, did they get caught out by the curfew? Swans vs Albion has meant me missing 2 games this year. JCL

Swans were outstanding (again.) My hearing has only just got back to normal though (the gig was Tuesday.) Xiu Xiu in support was terrible though, I just don't get what other people see in him. He's just difficult for the sake of being difficult

Is anyone else into their reggae? There are some immense gigs coming up including Black Uhuru & the absolutely legendary Congos. That's after Lee Scratch Perry t'other week.

Next week is all about the psych/noise rock for me though - Sightings on Monday, Eternal Tapestry on Thursday & White Hills the follwing week. I bloomin love living in Brighton.

Who mabnaged to get Modest Mouse tickets? It will be my first time seeing them. Super excited.

I did not want miss the charlton match so went to see SWANS at Koko last night. As usual they played at extreme volume playing a two hour set. The highlight was a fierce rendition of Coward. It was a brilliant show.

Pere Ubu next Saturday but I will need to be in the mood for it, bit like the album. Sometimes I love the new album, sometimes I would need to be paid to listen to it.

Seriously, be careful with this. Years of gig going has given me irreversible tinnitus..... I don't really regret it but wish I'd taken heed of the ringing ears after gigs (erhm this is cells dying......) - do yourself a favour and buy a pair of er20s off amazon for about a tenner, you don't have to wear them all the time, but will protect your hearing.

anyway, i'm looking forward to the Great Escape purely for The Allah-Las and Unknown Mortal Orchestra both on 17th - they better not clash!

Have very similar hearing problems myself which I put down to standing at the front right next to the speakers for most concerts in my youth. Ears ringing for as much as three days afterwards.

As for Unkown Mortal Orchestra- good call. Got their latest offering a month ago not knowing much about them.It was a resident records recommendation and I am really enjoying it.

Saw Ulrich Schnauss last night. Was rather cool as the gig was in a church and they had an accompanying video projected onto the inside of the domed roof.

There seem be more and more churches being used as venues which is great for the more acoustic bands. I always try and get along to something in The Unitarian Church as part of The Great Escape.

Nice one, I've been meaning to invest in some for a while. The free ones are awful.

Went to see 'The Sheepdogs' last night at The Haunt. Somewhat disappointed as their set was heavy on the blues rock and a light on the boogie rock and southern rock that I was hoping for. No doubt a result of their new material being produced by one of the chaps out of The Black Keys. ............. This would never have happened when Thatcher was alive.

Martin Rossiter ( ex Gene ) is playing at The Pavillion Brighton on 14th June. One to bring your other half along to.
He released an amazing and sadly overlooked album at the end of last year ' The Defenestartion Of St Martin' which has some beautiful songs on it.

:) he teaches at bimm and does various other things around Brighton. A smashing chap and a Britpop hero.

Got Jazzy Jeff and The Nextmen tonight. Hoping it will be full of awkward, cheery rum drinkers in search of some communal beats, rhymes and stupidity
