It was a Palace fan's wet dream last night. He's made those two mistakes and we've been punished. Cue all these boring Nigels on Twitter bleating at how crap he is.

Well we all know this season has been his worst in 5 years - Southgate should have been picking him years ago, not now. We also know that these 3 players the Nigels have that their boring fans keep talking about as world class will end up leading them to more 15th placed glory. Stay in your lane, Palace gimps.

A mistake by Dunky? Yes, but what were other players doing? No marking on Tielemans and Konsa standing indecisive in front of Pickford. He didn't go for the ball nor for the attacker.

As another posted pointed out Ben White might have got Dunk out of trouble,. Southgate arguably has missed the best of Dunk, just been too matey with some players

It's actually becoming like a genuine mental illness. If I watch England and a Palace player makes a gaffe, the last thing I'd bother to do would be do go on twitter and bait Palace fans about it, because frankly, it's meaningless.

Everyone knows he made a mistake, we know he's not in great form. Is Palace's only "win" these days the failings of Brighton and their players? Yes, yes it is.

I think this just about sums it up:

Selfishly, at this stage of his career, I’d prefer he has the summer off and comes back refreshed next season. I’ve felt he may not be fully fit for a lot of this season (RDZ spoke about needing to ‘manage his minutes’). I wonder if he’s playing with injections or something like that. I appreciate Lewis probably doesn’t feel the same way.
He had a back injury that was causing problems earlier in the season when we were playing a lot of games close together. Suspect that is still be managing in the way you describe which probably has effected his performances this year.

Still think he has a chance of making the squad. Southgate finally starting him says he is seriously considering him and his options are relatively limited at centre half now. Suspect he may end up taking the 4 fittest of his top 7/8 centre halves of which Dunk is one of.

I think he'll make the initial long-list training squad but not make the final 23.

Southgate does seem to favour experience in his centre-backs though, which works in Dunk's favour, but Tomori's case has probably only become stronger after the last couple of games. His exclusion from this squad was slightly baffling.

Just play that header in the 4-1 massacre as a reply to every single one of them. They’re really clutching at straws. Plus, it’s England and to be taking pleasure in us giving a goal away makes no sense - I want even Palace players to play well for England as I can think with my head and distinguish between club and country 🤷🏻‍♂️

Now was the time to try the Braithwaites and Tomoris; Southgate should know what he'll get from Dunk by now. You can't throw these guys in once the tournament starts. Southgate is a fraud, he only cares about the immediate result because he cares about himself. If Man U hire him I'll be f***ing delighted!!!

Lewis Dunk must have nightmares of Romelu Lukaku at this point.

Another poor mistake, which is a shame, but overall I thought he did okay (y)
Over the years he has made the same mistake in the position he did last night
Constantly going with his right foot when it should be his left
Unfortunately I feel as though he might miss out but here’s hoping 🤞

Yup, and IMO not as clear-cut a mistake as Pickford's throw to Onana.

Yep, I had a text from a Nigel even before the second half had finished slating Dunk.

Guehi and Wharton are the answers to England's centre back and centre midfield issues and both will be starting every game shortly apparently :ffsparr:

But on his Palace debut (at the Amex) Wharton made A MISTAKE that led to a GOAL. He is therefore completely SHIT, and should never be picked again.

That's how it works, isn't it?

Maybe Dunky, should have taken man and ball and whacked it off the pitch. Just like he should have done against Roma. Both incidents were caused by a mindset that it's not OK just to boot it into the stand like an old school centre half. You need to retain possession and can take risks to do so. Which, gets us a lot of possession, but at the risk of being turned over in a dangerous area.

But I agree with those saying that from the moment that possession was lost, that is a goal about 1 in 20 or 1 in 50 times. An utterly incredible cross from Lukaku and a barnstorming run from Tielemens which nobody had bothered to track.

England careers hang on these things. Just that turn of luck means we're very likely to have Maguire, a serial maker of much worse errors throughout the euros.

I reckon Dunk is about 5th choice CB now, which probably doesn't get him on the plane unless there are a lot of injuries and almost certainly doesn't get him on the pitch.

Dunk?
That would make sense to me, but Southgate might go for the versality of Konsa or the goalscoring prowess of Gomez as a 5th choice.

You'd think only 4 CB's would be picked, so probably Dunky is already relying on injuries
