Oh dear I had hoped this thread would slip away especially after being told I was a c*nt. Its true the models and cooling trends have turned to shit. We have had SW's since Monday with SW's for as long as they eye can see. In fact Tuesday next week it could reach 60 degrees in the South when it should be about 46. It is starting to look like a repeat of last winter when we had 3 months of very mild , wet and windy SW's.

Think it's pretty safe to say that US is to weather forecasting what US is to horserace tipping

Haywards Heath
The holly bushes in Haywards Heath near The Priory have got loads of berries on which usually means a cold winter I am told.

Will it be like 1963 snowed on Boxing Day and stayed until mid February.

Puts me in mind of the start of Dylan Thomas' A Child's Christmas in Wales:
Will it be like 1963 snowed on Boxing Day and stayed until mid February.

"One Christmas was so much like another, in those years around the sea-town corner now and out of all sound except the distant speaking of the voices I sometimes hear a moment before sleep, that I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve or whether it snowed for twelve days and twelve nights when I was six.

As I am a part time Meteorologist, the Southwick Weather Station is predicting one of the coldest winters for the last 15 years this Winter. The cooling trend is well established. Temperatures are well down on the figures we were getting last year which was the 2nd warmest winter in 400 years. We have had 3 frosts this week already recorded at the Southwick WS with the week low of - 1C, 30F recorded last night. Day maximums of around 8C 46F are below the average for this time of year at 11C 52F and the trend will continue.

I expect several periods this Winter of snowfall and expect a " substantial " snow event to occur with a fall of up to 6 inches.

I also think the likelhood of a White Xmas is the highest it has been for over 20 years. The cooling trend is established in the Northern Countries and Eastern Europe and they are getting very low temperatures at an early stage of Winter. Also the sea temparatures are well below last year and recent years after a dissapointing Summer and this means airflows from the European continent and the Northern Hemispheres do not heat up as much over the sea before they reach us.

I like the 6/1 on offer with William Hill for a White Xmas in London and the Aberdeen White Xmas is always good value and delivers regularly at good odds of 7/2.

That is all.

Post your Sussex snowfall pictures here to get in the mood.
