This is all about high and low pressure. If you have been watching the pressure charts daily since the weather improved in late summer you would have noticed a big area of high pressure west of Ireland. Occasionally it has drifted directly over the UK but now it is back to the west of Ireland. The only route for low pressure now is round the top of the high , so bringing it to us from the north west or north, hence the cool weather. It will only warm up if that high moves south allowing low pressure to move in from west or south west.

that is correct, the antlantic cold block is well established now hence the north and north wests we are regualrly getting, its all looking rather good

The only White Christmas I can really remember was in 2002, in Oklahoma ! It NEVER snows there ! I hate snow, I have to walk up a very steep hill to get to work and snow is a real problem, the people with SUVs around here really do need them.
