Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow.

Man, it doesn't show signs of stopping
And I brought me some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow

This is all about high and low pressure. If you have been watching the pressure charts daily since the weather improved in late summer you would have noticed a big area of high pressure west of Ireland. Occasionally it has drifted directly over the UK but now it is back to the west of Ireland. The only route for low pressure now is round the top of the high , so bringing it to us from the north west or north, hence the cool weather. It will only warm up if that high moves south allowing low pressure to move in from west or south west.

You know I'm right

that is correct, the antlantic cold block is well established now hence the north and north wests we are regualrly getting, its all looking rather good

everytime someone says its going to be a hot hot summer or ice cold winter it invariably turns out to be complete bollocks, facts are you can only predict weather at max of 5 days ahead so no one knows

In a nutshell US do you think I will be able to ski down Devils Dyke at some point this winter ?

Yes

Infact there is an outside chance of sleet Sunday afternoon/evening and wet snow over the downs

These predictions of extreme weather are all a bit Daily Express aren't they ?

That soppy rag has been running 'worst winter for 500 years' headlines or the 'hottest summer ever, and were all going to die !!!!!' headlines for several years now, and it is all rather repetitive, untrue, and frankly quite boring.

For the UK as a whole, winter-mean temperatures are more likely to be above normal than near or below normal. Although a winter milder than the 1971-2000 average is favoured, temperatures are likely to be lower than those experienced in the very mild winter last year.

Our forecast methods continue to favour a drier winter than last year over the UK as a whole. However, as last month, this signal is currently insufficient to indicate whether winter precipitation totals are more likely to be above or below the 1971-2000 average.v

Unless we can get some of our nuclear power stations back on line we may struggle with our electricity supply if we get a REALLY cold winter.

Hang on U.S...that is for Murmansk in Russia?
My dad spent some time in Murmansk during WW2. It was cold, but not cold enough to close the port.

He brought this picture back with him.

DUCKS have been eating an inordinate amount this year (by duck standards anyway), and are said to have been doubling their fat layers. These billed bastards (tasty little blighters) are purported to be excellent forecasters for winters.

I lean towards a belief of the waddling wankers, it will be a cold friggin winter.

So... no sooner has the Southwick Weather Station spoken, than the frosts and clear skies vanish overnight to be replaced by ten-degree-warmer mildness. Top tipping as per usual Uncle! :lolol:

The only White Christmas I can really remember was in 2002, in Oklahoma ! It NEVER snows there ! I hate snow, I have to walk up a very steep hill to get to work and snow is a real problem, the people with SUVs around here really do need them.
