Leicester after £6.5m Leo Ulloa

I'm saying I don't believe he is worth £6.5m (if the best strikers at this level go for £5-8m) but to buy an austin/rhodes/mccormack type striker who WILL score 20+ championship goals would set us back probably £5m in transfer fee, plus huge wages on top. His salary in comparison to those mentioned will also be much lower - Rhodes for example is apparently on £30k p/w (£1.5m p/a) - I'd doubt Leo is on half that. IMO his value to us exceeds his true market value.

In which case, his value to us IS his true market value.

Does he fit in with our system though? He's scored a lot of goals but his general play has been pretty poor this season, is that fitness or not fitting in with our system. He's more a poacher in the area, the way Oscar seems to want us to play we need a more mobile striker

Or another way to look at it is not to look for faults in the system or with the striker, but in this case we haven't been giving him much support because the very players we have in our squad that would have been able to provide this have been suffering from injuries (Buckley, Orlandi, CMS, Hoskins, Lua Lua, Crofts)

many a time you could see Ulloa in or around the oppositions penalty area and then have to look right out to the wing or back to the centre circle to find another Brighton player. He has been out numbered and the level of supporting players near him has often been lacking which means that what he has achieved is even better because of this disadvantage.

Worth a least double that - especially with the silly money Leicester will get from the Prem.

Double that and you're looking at him being worth more than what was paid for Bony, Sturridge or Giroud in the past year or so.

He's not young, quick or English. I reckon £6.5m is probably about the going rate. Maybe an extra £1m if there's lots of interest.

I realise that's how the market works in reality, but I'm making a distinction between that figure (our valuation) and his quality in comparison to other strikers at this level. If the best strikers are worth £8m I don't believe ulloa is worth any more than £5m, but yes, his value to us (in that we have no other prolific alternatives and it would cost the same or more to replace him) is higher.

Jordan Rhodes cost £8 million in the league below. DO ONE, Leicester (if it's even true)

I'd take £8.5 mil if Ross McCormack (clearly Prem bound) and Troy Deeney were interested in joining us.

Ward? Stephens? Lingard? Andrews? Upson? Yeah, he's clueless that bloke.

I don't think Lingard and Andrews have been the prospects we thought they might.

I do think the purchasing strategy has been somewhat curious this year. I can only assume the purse strings were tied in 2013/14 for a very good reason. Let's hope they are loosened next year and better decisions are made.

Very hard to say given he has never played in the Premier League.

This is perfectly true. Liam went to Sunderland expecting to set the Prem on fire. According to Sunderland forum he's been a total waste of money and some have even said we stitched them up.... my heart bleeds.
It would be great if as someone else has posted, we got further payments from them now they have avoided relegation. I'd not be surprised. I'd hazard a guess that our Mr TB is quite sharp when contracts are drawn up. :)

Fair play if true... That is a good offer if we don't win promotion!

What would it cost to replace him? Who is possibly a player who could replace him? So the simple answer is do not sell him for such a small fee comparatively.

Barber said we were on target to meet FFP this year, which means the losses wouldn't be over £8m. They were higher the year before.

1) An annual business loss and losses "allowable" under FFP are not the same thing.
2) Paul Barber's comment is shot in time, applicable to the financial position at the time he made it; the financial year to which it relates doesn't end for another 55 days so who knows?
3) The permitted loss under FFP in 2013/14 is £3m unless the shareholders are prepared to inject more equity (to a maximum of an additional £5m). Has Paul Barber (or anyone else at the club) indicated/confirmed that the shareholders are willing to do this?
4) Next season the permitted FFP loss remains at £3m but the additional equity investment allowed reduces from £5m to £3m. If BHA were to sell Ulloa (or anyone else), the proceeds would not appear in the 2013/14 accounts. Incidentally, his book value is probably around £1.25m atm so selling him for anything above this turns in a profit.

Fine as long as what we get is ALL spent on another striker or two that can score twenty plus goals a season at at least Championship level , otherwise forget it.

Pace matters in the Premiership more than it does in the Championship. I think Leo might struggle a little bit as he is pretty slow.

But if we sell him we would have to buy again for similar money so why sell unless it's a daft price? I wouldn't let him go for less £10m.
Agree,we'd have to find a replacement and strikers are the dearest players to to buy. TBF to Leo,he was out for weeks and still managed 16 goals...to those wishing to sell at £6.5m...beware what you wish for..
