The whole problem has to be down to the fact that the FA have no control over the Premiership after Taylor signed away the rights. The FA can't do anything about this new deal that the Premiership has signed, and can't force them to spread out any of the money.

And it isn't out of a love of the game that the biggest, most successful businessmen in the world are investing in English clubs, they know that in a few years time there is a pile of money to be made - potentially from this franchise nightmare that people have been suggesting.

Sorry it wasnt a dig at Palace.

Teams like West Brom, Palace Birmingham etc all have players that could of played in the top flight a few years ago, therefore they are going to be on a large wedge.

No i know it wasn't mate i was just saying that it doesn't take a lot of working out that we had a massive wage bill last season, I mean that clown Macken was on £10k a week and he played about 6 games for us!

And you are right Palace have been as guilty as anyone of chasing the pot of gold and paying silly money and wages for players.

No you won't because they don't have to fork out £50 a go to watch it do they?

If stadiums REALLY start emptying around the country, Premiership clubs will slash their prices soon enough.

But that won't do lower league clubs any favours...

what I don't understand is, all these people that are taking over prem clubs and investing fortunes. How do they make there money, if there are only 4 places available for CL? fans aren't exactly turning up in droves to see the other teams, and fans of the big teams are becoming disillusioned regarding the price to see there team play.

Premiership clubs don't only make their money from the gate takings....

If I remember rightly Manure make massive profits from selling branded merchandise!

The main reason the draft system works so well in the US is because the pool of players entering the draft have no existing relationship with the clubs who are signing them. They're also moving from one competition to another (ie they're moving from the collegiate system to professional clubs). I can't see how a draft system could operate in the UK without a total restructuring of the junior game. For example, why would a club spend its resources developing a junior player when they're probably going to lose them to another club in the draft without compensation. However, I think a salary cap would level the playing field somewhat, especially in the premier league

Depends on the club - middle of the road clubs such as Spurs and Newcastle dont seem to have a problem selling out despite charging silly money.

I agree about the attitudes of managers, but I think there have always been people prepared to blame the ref for EVERYTHING in the game. And Wenger in particular has always been a total tosser about defending the thuggery of his own team.

The problem nowadays is that there is so much money riding on these decisions that there needs to be better safeguards against shit decisions - I think it's time for TV referees. It seems that too many people seem happy for games to be decided by human error, yet we're talking about a low scoring sport where every scoring decision is crucial.

Why is there so much money riding on these games now?
The Premiership that is why, somethign you said was low down on the list of problems of football today.
For me the Premiership and it's elitist greed is the top cause of problems in football today. Everything that is wrong with our domestic game eminates from the Premiership.

Let's translate this into today's money and see how it reads.

Financially,I am glad to say, each player will benefit by this afternoon's match to the extent of at least £48.

To the winners a bonus of £128 is payable by the club, so it is possible for the participants of the winning team to receive £176 extra to their basic wage.

If the match is drawn, all players taking part will receive an additional £112 made up by £48 appearance money and £64 bonus for the draw.

If our boys are successful the wage packet for those taking part in both the Luton and this afternoon's match will be £560.

As today's match is in addition to the normal League and FA cup programme, it is nice to see the players get a little extra remuneration, provided they give entertainment value to supporters.

This was in the days when footballers received a maximum wage of £20 a week - or, in today's money £16,640 a year.

Strewth!

I must have needed Securicor to get my 45 new pence home!!

But why should clubs that don't generate that level of money be entitled to other clubs revenue.

I think it is a moral issue due to finances rather than a solely financial issue. The fans are getting rinsed by clubs, merchandisers, Sky and caterers. Its f***ing pure greed and it makes me sick.

The good thing about the old Football League was that they recognised the importance of all the professional football clubs in England, not just an elite few. Tha is why more money was moved down to the lower divisions, helping these clubs out. The Football League recognised that the small clubs run at a loss and that money from the top clubs would help keep them afloat.
By creating the Premiership this stopped the flow of money and the link the top clubs have with the small clubs, hence the top clubs are only now really concerned with themselves. Paying their players obscene amounts of money, which eventually trickles down to the lower leagues. Higher wages in all leagues means higher gate prices.

Are you sure football was much better at a time when you pissed in a ditch at half time while watching shit players ply their trade along proper good players, who themselves earnt about 50p a week because of the maximum wage?

Err,part a) yes.

Part b)ply their trade along proper good players. Is this alongside good players,or proper good as in truly amazingly superb as in Mr.McCammon? In which case possibly yes,or probably no.

I think.
