Just far enough away from LDC
Since he left he has played against us 5 times. We have won 1, drawn 2 and lost 2. He has managed to give the ball away leading to a goal for us, been anonymous in 3 games and scored in one which he gloatingly posted a lot about on his insta.

Not sure that's a good return on investment against teams like brighton

That isn’t how it went down with Trossard. Lallana and other senior players laid into him for not putting any effort in. He then disappeared to Belgium. After we beat Liverpool RDZ said after the game there was a way back for him it’s up to the player.
Well yes, that was the wobbly which led to the reaction.

RDZ did say that, but only after he said a lot worse

Lallana actually tried the arm around the shoulder 'keep your standards up, don't rock the boat, play your football and a move will follow probably in the summer' line. Based on his own experience at Southampton.

Which apparently was received badly by the easy going and not at all stroppy belgian, hence a wider number of senior players being more vocal
I strongly believe the sight of Ali Mac coming back late, holding the trophy and getting feted by all and sundry, went down very badly with Trossard. He thought this World Cup was going to be his starring moment with Belgium winning the lot, and it went terribly wrong.

So I tend to forgive him his head state at the time.

Yep. True measure of someone's character is when things aren't going as you'd like, not when everything's rosey.

Reports at the time about the Belgium squad said that there was a very divided camp, with the more established names on one side, and the newer / lesser known players on the other. If true, it makes me wonder if he was on the lesser side and felt that by remaining a Brighton player, we wouldn't get that respect needed from the more senior pros that play for the biggest clubs, and that fall out would have helped convince him to force a move elsewhere.

His attitude changed and form dropped right off after the WC, although that could also be down to trying to ensure he got in the squad and pushed for starts prior to the WC starting, and then once the tournament was over, he didn't need to try as there was no big tournament to aim for with Belgium, meaning he didn't need to try to impress the national manager, so he lost his motivation to perform, and maybe was just going through the motions once back here. Maybe RDZ picked up on this and this led to their falling out (and if he was in a bad place mentally due to that divided Belgium camp, then having the manager and some players turn on him too would have made him even more disheartened and demotivated)

The Arsenal Trossard is exactly the same as the Albion Trossard.

Frustratingly ordinary when he starts games, but often useful off the bench. Can score a goal, but can also disappear entirely in matches. When he does well, it makes you think he should be starting every week, but when he does, he tends not to make as much impact.

Their fans find him as irritating as we did.

And when he left I was far from gutted. He was a player I really didn’t mind moving on, even to a top team mid-season. By the time he left he was an active hindrance on the pitch more often than not.

Can’t remember the details of it all now but Mrs Trossard had told other parents at their kid’s school/nursery they were moving far away from Hove before the World Cup had even started.

Another boo from me because of the manner in which he left. Good player, did well for us. Completely forgot about him after though.

Surprised he turned up at all on Saturday - if I recall he doesn’t like playing in cold/wet weather.

If memory serves, Trossard was contracted until summer 2023 and the club offered him an extension before he went to the World Cup. He turned it down thinking he'd be off in the summer. When January came, there were reports in the press that the club were going to take their option to extend for a year meaning that he'd be with us on existing terms for another 18 months. That's when the lack of effort in training started. He was trying to force our hand.

It worked because RDZ wasn't going to have anyone who wasn't going to work and because Mitoma was looking like the better option in his position. When Arsenal showed interest after Chelsea gazumped them on Mudryk, they were five points clear at the top with a game in hand. He headed off smugly to North London thinking he'd not only got the big money contract, but was also going to win the league. Funny that all he has won since is the Charity Shield.

I think you're right but if anything it makes me less inclined to forgive him.
