I don’t think it affects our negotiating stance at all. Clubs know players want away simply by getting on the phone to them. If a club wants him then they have to pay.

It’s such a shame isn’t. If he’d let Bloom/Barber/RDZ know that he 100% wasn’t going to sign a new contract then the latest he would have had to wait for a move is the summer as it would have been our last chance to cash in. No need for any of this.

If the thing that “humiliated” Leo was RDZ calling him out in a team meeting for not working hard enough, which seems to have been hinted, then he will not survive at a top club. That sort of thing happens at every club. You only have to watch those All or Nothing docs to see it. So for Leo to use something like that as reason for a tantrum shows a crap mentality.

Football Focus just came out with the usual cliches that the manager should be doing what he can to make up and keep the player. The timeline seems to suggest that Trossard's lack of effort started after his return from the World Cup, his first training sessions with Brighton after the additional year option had been taken up. If, as it seems, Trossard's desire to move being stymied is what began the falling out, what are they expecting De Zerbi to do? From the club's point of view, there is no change: He moves if someone meets the club's valuation. If nobody does, then its up to the player if he decides whether to sulk or to work. Very few continue the sulk outside of transfer windows.

Harry Kane similarly agitated for a move, refused to turn up, then was welcomed back into the side. Whether this is terminal for Trossard at Brighton remains to be seen, but if offers aren’t quite what he or the club were expecting, might be that some bridge repair contractors will be needed.

I wouldn’t. That’s what he wants and it takes no account of our investment in and contract commitments to him. It would also set a terrible precedent for the rest of the squad. This is a much bigger issue than Trossard.

Bowing down to his demands opens the door for others to try the same thing when / if the time comes, which would be more costly long term than losing a few million on him now by staying firm.

You're right of course. @Springal also pointed out another anomaly, in that we court players over a long period, which is also undoubtedly true.
That said, my allegiance is with the club, and not necessarily any individual player, especially when that player wants out.
I appreciate that this may give rise to the occasional double standard.
For me, Trossard's behaviour has gone beyond looking for a way out. He's now taking the piss.
This , i think Trossard has lost sight that the extra year option works both ways , if he had been long term injured he could of activated the clause to his benefit . It`s a simple case of a bellend spitting his dummy out
