This feels like a Bissouma situation unless I'm pleasantly surprised. We won't sell him in January, will trigger his year extension and then sell for a decent amount the following summer with Enciso or Samiento playing a bigger role as the season progresses.

Sadly, I just can't see Trossard signing a new deal.
Although agreeing that Tross is likely to go at some point in 2023, the only differences with the Biss situation is that firstly, we have been a lower half/relegation contender for 4 years
Now we are no longer seen like that. That may change his view about staying as it clearly did for Ali Mac.

Also Tross is scoring more regularly and getting noticed. I am sure he will be a regular starter for Belgium AFTER the World Cup when Hazard retires (although she probably should be starting ahead of him anyway).

He has to decide whether being a regular starter and scoring regularly for us is better than being a bit part player for a side who can pay him a lot more.

My biggest worry is not the current Big 6, but a side like Newcastle who would probably give both the money and the game time.

Can submit a bid whenever you want. Just can’t transfer until January.
Was unaware of this.

In that case, I’m really surprised clubs don’t fling more bids in during the season to unsettle rivals’ players.

Agree but this year there's a new manager and he may well want to bring in a few new players
True, but our new manager also won't want to instantly lose his best player. RDZ wants to get his feet under the table at Brighton, feel secure in his position, and getting good results is the best way to do that. Losing Trossard in only 3 or 4 games time could put that at risk. I will be very surprised if he goes.

The only caveat is that the World Cup can dramatically change the dynamics of the transfer dynamic for a short period. If Trossard stars in the World Cup, scores the winner in the final or something equally stunning, his price tag could get BIG BIG BIG. It's the biggest stage of all.

Unfortunately I think Trossard is absolutely ripe for Newcastle at the end of the season. They will be able to provide a bid that matches Tonys evaluation and are also on about the right trajectory to ensure Leo would get plenty of game time whilst doubling his wages.

Unfortunately unless Tony decides he's going to start playing our best players more money we are going to continue to see them leaving.

Sadly totally agree. Newcastle should appeal to him. They can afford big wages and critically way more chance of being a regular starter as opposed to being part of a regular rotation with too much time on the bench.

It would be nice to know what persuaded Ali Mac to extend since the sad reality is that the normal driver is wages and we just can't compete with some of the big boys :(

In the end, only one man decides on Trossard's immediate future, and that's Tony Bloom. He expected to sell Bissouma last summer, and will already have a view on whether Trossard goes in January (which I doubt) or next summer. The World Cup is probably the only factor that will change that.

Perhaps the percentage of transfer fee is a big incentive

Plus he – or someone within the club – has probably identified Trossard's replacement or, if promoting from within, his replacement's replacement...

I love Ali Mac, but he hasn't got anything like the profile of Trossard yet.

In a year or two (or three), we might be in a similar situation to the one we find ourselves in now with Tross.
