Everyone seems to have such strong opinions when it comes to Le Fondre. Am I missing something or has everyone else seen more of him than his goals on the Football League show?

ive seen a fair bit of le fondre since he moved to rotherham (and not just on the football league show)

i can safely say that, had we have signed him at the start of last season, he WOULD have outscored barnes, purely because there were times when he missed chances that were criminal. put simply, if le fondre gets a sniff of goal he doesn't miss. this season though im not so sure - barnes seems to have gone away, worked hard over the summer and already looks more lethal than last year as his start to the season has shown

with regards to his drop off in form, it began when rotherham went on a dire run, refused to sell him and when the club was hugely unsettled which lead to ronnie moores sacking. that obviously smacks of a bad attitude, but funnily enough it was exactly the same as hoskins did to force through his move from rotherham to watford

im not sure he is any better than what we have got this season, but in the right side he would get goals at this level. i wouldnt complain if we shelled out £500k for him, but if poyet is genuinely looking for somebody better than what we have rather than just another striker to add to the competition and offer a different option, then i cant see us signing him

You can access the stats for this type of stuff - make your own minds up. He doesn't miss? Well not much more than a third of his shots actually hit the target. Stats don't tell us THAT much but they do tell us a little bit.

Ashley hit the target with half of his shots last season.

I wondered how long it would be until Scott saw this thread

I don't think Grant Holt is the player he was a couple of years ago. Yes - he is 'big', but not that athletic. IMHO he is not really the sort of 'impact' player we want to come off the bench for a specific job. He wouldn't be able to keep up with our play. Has been getting some stick from Canaries and media for his 'weight'. Think he likes too many pies. Gus would have to put him on a serious diet. Plus he would want a silly fee even if he were available. Can't get excited about the thought of him in an Albion shirt. Must be some better candidates out there.

I don't want to piss on the pyrotechnics of this thread's premise, but Alfie isn't actually desperate to leave Rotherham. Unless I've missed summat. Coventry made a cashy cash plus player bid for him last week, fOwls have had a 200k bid turned down.

And t'Millers were right to wait and see. The first season he scored shitloads they only missed out on the play-off final. The shit decision to sack Ronnie was made when Millers were 4th in the league last year, could well have gone up if he'd stayed.

i stand corrected then

barnes missed some absolute howlers last season (which is quite frightening when he still managed to score 20 goals). it was those sort of chances that i couldnt imagine le fondre missing from the fifteen or so games ive seen him play for rotherham over the last two seasons

I'd much rather have Barnes than Le Fondre as it goes so I can join you in Gerbil's  gang.
