Has Le Fondre scored 20 in league 1 in his first full season? No. Has he scored 4 from 5 in the championship? No. Is he only 21? No. I would certainly choose Barnes over Le Fondre any day of the week.

Thank you for saving me typing that myself

Not as much as they could have got twelve months ago, when they should have sold him. The irony is, they did not go up. Would have taken a chance on him last year, for a decent price but not anymore. He is not good enough for where we are going and if he is, he should prove it in league one first. Would be to much of a gamble at the price, to sign him in this league.

He had a poor second half of last season, ask a Rotherham fan. Doesn't make him shit but if he wasn't scoring in the 4th division I fail to see why we should suddenly expect him to score in the second tier.

Had a really poor run last season when his form dipped and he looked distinctly ordinary. Now I know all strikers have a bad run but a quality player still looks the part. I think he would have been worth a chance in league 1 but not higher - very much like Craig Davies who I don't think will make the step back up.
Add to that he lacks the arial power which is the thing that we currently don't have but really do need

Good as he is, Barnes hasn't scored 4 in the championship...

(4 includes 1 v Gillingham)

Another agreement here.

ok - let deal with the fact both from Le Fondre's point of view and ours...

1. Le Fondre or anyone else we sign would NOT replace Barnes, CMS or anyone. Instead, they would be bought in to COMPLIMENT our existing strike force and give us, like it or not, the physical presence and ability to hold the ball up in attack, which we don't have at the moment.

2. Le Fondre is untried and untested at this level. So is Barnes , so was Shane Long, so was Grant Holt and endless amount of other strikers and so in his defence, yes it would be a gamble, but he could be as prolific in the Championship as he was in League 2 but no one knows and it's going to take a brave manager to bring him to the championship.

3. You cannot compare his goal to game ratio to anyone else, it's the best in English professional football and so far this season played 4, scored 4

4. He is ONLY 24! f*ck me...Even I didn't realise this...Since he's turned 21, his goal ratio is 1 every other game - that's an UNBELIEVABLE goal to game ratio for a player under 25

Therefore, if he is going to cost £500k and Poyet believes he can do a job, then f&ck it I say - I hope he gives him a go! He's as much of a risk as CMS at this level and look how he's doing!

Indeed. Could be quite handy having him in the dressing room if we find ourselves a goal behind.

He could get Le Fondre to tell CMS he's got nice hair or that Barnes is the best penalty taker at the club and watch them score a hattrick each in the second half.

If they are genuinely selling him for 500k, I'd snap that up...

I reckon it'll be Sheffield Wednesday and they will end up paying well over the odds.

well he (or his agent) has floated the rumour that "Rangers haven't bid for him" so setting his sights high :)
I would agree that Wednesday are likely to get him for around the three quarter mill mark - probably too much but if you've got the money he is worth the risk at that level
