Anyone who sees it as a racially motivated attack have no "evidence" for that assumption other than the difference in the skin colour between the attacked and the attacker - making such an assumption is by definition a racist one.

Simple question, what evidence is there to support the presumption that it was a racially motivated attack other than the above?

The only fact is you don't know and neither do I. No one on here does. It could be racially motivated, it may not be. I am sure racism exists, I am not living in a fluffy cloud land some people seem to inhabit whereby it could not be racist in anyway. And racism exists both ways. Sadly.

no - i am not talking about this assault - who knows what was said? yes its being used as a hobby horse to point out the skewed attitudes to what constitutes a racially motivated assault. perhaps thats unseemly. the discussion quickly moved on why? because on one hand you have people desperate to be even handed or over compensating, and at the other extreme people who will use this as an opportunity to show that the prevailing view of race relations is somewhat outdated.

no one on here gets on the 49 bus and is subjected to racial abuse and intimidation. but they are happy to tell people who get on night buses in london they are wrong and they are making it up. clowns.

Surely a racist attack has to be an attack motivated by the race of the parties involved? How it's construed by the media is neither here nor there.

If I am right and get what you are implying that it was because they maybe Muslim then that would not be racial it would surely be a religious related incident then as there are white and black Muslims.

They are violent young men, I'd imagine that it takes very little to set them off. Any perceived slight (even, it appears, someone attempting to stand up to them) is enough.

You are making assertions without any evidence. I see now they have been charged, but still no mention of racial aggravation.

Nope, I had not even considered because they were Muslims. What I am getting at is they picked on her for a reason and I do not buy the fact that it was her dress

Whether or not the scumbags involved did say anything racial or not is not really the issue for me. These people(I use that in the loosest possible term) got on the bus and for no apparent reason picked on this woman. Now either they were fashion critics or they just wanted to pick on this woman, this could be because they were sexist, which I doubt. I still maintain they would not have reacted the same to a black girl. I think what is likely is that she answered them back and this offended their sense of being supreme in some way. Certainly the areas where I live I would say that the open racism is more prevalent from black people than it is white people, this is not because they are more racist than white people but because they can get away with it. The police cannot really do anything about it or they will be accused of racism.
It is just a mess, someone in this thread has described a white flight. I see it as more as a decent people's flight as most of the people I know are moving further out as London is not like it was and never will be.

iit cracks me up when you read people saying 'i just see a cowardly assault'. i am a middle aged man who regularly takes buses in lewisham and the amount of racist abuse against white people i encounter is astounding. just last night i was called a white c--- for the crime of getting on a bus at 8-30 in a bit of a scrum if you answer back you are seriously putting yourself in danger. its a power and dominance thing. the problem is - as witnessed on here - people are desperate to be even handed and show themselves as non racist - which is easy to do if you are not in the firing line.

theres so many dick heads on here its not true, telling people they are out of line and racist. its laughable if it wasnt so scary that they had the vote. generally these people would be in absolute pieces if they were on a south london nightbus, thats the irony.

i will bear all that in mind next time someone is threatening to stab me and racially abusing me as they think i have pushed in a bus queue. it will probably be within a week or two so i wont forget.

i hae never racially abused anyone in my life, and try my damndest to treat everyone equally irrespective of race, gender, class the work. what do i get back for it. teeth kissing and threats of violence on a regular basis, for no reason other than my race.
