And for me these things remain:

1) The Labour Party did/does have a problem with antisemitism

2) The problem has been seized upon by the right wing influencers as an opportunity to smite the left.

3) People have fallen for this ploy

4) The Labour Party responds by not just rooting out those who are guilty, but by supressing or removing anyone who may take issue with elitist attitudes when it comes to the governance of Israel in relation to its foreign policy. They are not just dealing with issues, they are trying to get the right wing monkey off their back.

5) People who have done nothing wrong have also been punished. Corbyn could have chosen his words better but I saw no error in his view.

6) The dominance of the issue in the headlines only stokes real anit-Semites and causes fear among many folk.

7) A serious issue has become a political football.

Starmer will be fuming and rightly so. Like Trump, Corbyn has obviously installed his own people into powerful places within the party whom could influence them for years. Looks like Starmer has a bigger job than I first thought of getting the party as electable as he is. Mind you, if Johnson is still PM in 4 years time, it won’t really matter what the Labour Party looks like or who is in charge, they’ll be in Downing Street.

We have all come across some nobbers. I have had a similar conversation about Israel with someone in my family. I always point out that I've been to Israel more than once whereas he knows **** all about it.

But as I say, that doesn't allow anyone to conflate Starmer with Boris. Boris is a shamelss shit. Starmer is a scrupulous servant of the nation.

Ahead of the meeting on Tuesday, Mr Corbyn - who has been a member of the party for 54 years - released a statement on Facebook, saying concerns over anti-Semitism within Labour are "neither exaggerated nor overstated".

It’s not a false dichotomy of Jewish versus everyone else viewpoints, that’s a trap antisemites from the far right and far left would love us to fall into in online chatter. Instead it’s decent people of any background, versus antisemites, all racists and their apologists.

Corbyn it seems now realises that.

Like it or loath it, the UK people (those who are interested in politics or who’s in government), seem to be centre right to centre left. Is that similar or dissimilar to the ROI? For all the deprived areas of the UK that might spring to your mind, I’ve witnessed it too, there are tens of millions living in varying degrees of comfort in suburbia.

I know Corbyn got 40% in 2017, his high water mark when up against a deeply chaotic PM, but that would include a huge rump of always Labour or always anti-Tory voters including many NSC’ers such as @HWT. Not at heart advocates of the Momentum version of Labour.

Starmer’s version of social democracy is the best you’re going to see in the UK for now.

I spent most of my time in Tel Aviv and gun-totin' young women in combat fatigues aside (national service, innit?) it struck me as a very relaxed city. Jerusalem, however, is mad.

I spent a lot of time with a fellow scientist who did his national service in Mossad (so, second time I went he whisked me through security and saved me several hours of TDmmm). Visited the place where John the Baptist did his deed (awash with over-excited American tourists). Golan Heights (now, there is a place where you understand why the Israelis pushed back the Syrians, just by looking at the geology). He told me the biggest problem in Israel is the orthodox medaevilists, with their ringlets, wigs, black frock coats and unwavering determination to sponge off the state. Say that at a labour party conference and he'd be swimming with the political fishes

I have some good pals living in Israel. And Lebanon. I am more optimistic than you about the future. Bibi won't last forever. Israel had cooked up deals (for example a massive hydroelectric collaboration) with Jordan decades ago. Even Palestine/Gaza...eventually people adapt to survive and humans excel at making deals.....given time and necessity. If Boris can knock up a sweet Brexit deal by the end of the year, in the rest of the world anything is possible.

Well you would hope so, had rocks luzzed at me by Palestinian kids in Jerusalem one evening when I went to the Wailing Wall, they were clearly not up for the Peace Process.

You are right the Golan Heights was impressive as there is so much wrecked Syrian Armour still up there.

It is quite clear that whoever is in the White House there is a huge and probably immoveable USA strategy to keep Israel going as their bulwark in the Region.

Israel clearly have nuclear weapons as well as massive conventional US military backup so will always win any conflicts with their neighbours. This is probably their best card when trying to make a lasting peace deal.

None of this will go down well at the next Labour Party Conference but it is all true.
